Benefit for the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre w. The Jimmy Cake and Tychonaut. Sept 28th The 12Bar Club, London, 9.30 p.m. Well, there I am with a month-long evening gig myself, which has already precluded me from seeing Peter Hammill at the RFH in September. The good thing is that the 12Bar Club shows tend to go on verrrry late, so there's a chance I may be able to sneak a look at the end of it. adam k. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Aug 2004 10:49:34 -0700 From: Alan Subject: This is an interesting article on why DRM is *bad* http://www.cultureby.com/trilogy/archives/000169.html A great article as to why digital rights management is harmful to music lovers. - -- "Ye have locked yerselves up in cages of fear--and, behold, do ye now complain that ye lack FREEDOM!" - Lord Omar in THE EPISTLE TO THE PARANOIDS Chaper 1 Verse 1 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Aug 2004 20:24:09 -0700 From: Paul Schreiber Subject: Anya Marina is PG-13: Sunnyvale House Concert, 9/5 For the ADD kids - --------------------------------------------- The amazing Anya Marina plays a house concert. RSVP. Suggested donation: $10. <-- RSVP!! Sunday, September 5, 2004. 8 p.m. Sharp. Sunnyvale, California 94085 What's going on - --------------------------------------------- Fresh off her San Diego Music Awards nomination for best acoustic artist, Anya Marina is returning home to the valley to play a very special house concert. Spend the day before labour day with great music and great company. About Anya - --------------------------------------------- She may have been kicked out of The Mint, but we're welcoming her with open arms here in Sunnyvale. The multi-talented Marina's sassy style has landed her gigs with folks like Steve Poltz, parts on TV, in indie films and a radio show on San Diego's 94.9 FM. Anya sings about everything from French fashion to dive bars. Regardless of topic, she's sure to entertain. Check out Anya's web site: http://www.anyamarina.com/ FAQ - --------------------------------------------- Q: So what is a house concert, anyway? A: It's a wonderful way to experience music. Acoustic sound, intimate setting. No smoke, no drunks, no obnoxious suits. Q: I've listened to the clips, and I'm not sure. Should I still come? A: Yes, come! Music is best experienced live, and if you've never been to a house concert, now's a great time to start. If you were here last time, you already know how good it was. Q: Where is the concert? A: In my living room. Really. You'll get directions to the house when you RSVP. I like this RSVP thing. You should, too. Q: When should I arrive? A: Between 7:30 and 7:59 is good. If you're late, enter via the back door. Q: What about transportation? A: There's plenty of street parking, I live within walking distance of the Caltrain station, and the VTA buses drop you off two blocks away. Q: Can I blog about this concert? A: Sure. Please direct people to RSVP to anya-lrc@paulschreiber.com. Don't post my other email address on the web for spambots. Q: Who gets the money? A: Anya. Every cent. Q: Will she have CDs and merch for sale? A: Indeedy. Q: Who should I bring? A: Bring a friend! Bring a date! Bring your Mom! Bring all three! Q: What should I bring? A: Drinks and snacks will be provided, but if you'd like to bring something to share, I'd be really grateful. If you have folding chairs, let me know. Q: What time does this start again? A: 8 p.m. That's Pacific Daylight Time. Q: What if I have a question that's not answered here? A: Email me, I'm happy to answer. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Aug 2004 23:39:51 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: **Rachael Sage Release Parties: West Coast & Beyond!** Hi, I guess I haven't mentioned here yet that my new job is as Rachael's tour manager. :) It'd be great to see as many far-flung ectophiles as possible on the road!! (Paul Kim, that means you. Front and >center at the Knitting Factory on Wednesday. :) This will make meredith the first ectophile to attend one of our house concerts! It's going to be a blast :) I haven't mentioned our programming coup. After Rachael Sage, we are going to be presenting a special labor day house concert with the Creekdippers, featuring Mark Olson and Victoria Williams! I still can't believe we are going to have Victoria performing in the house! They are also coming with a drummer and a trumpet player, which should be an intriguing contrast to Rachael's coming with the same mix of musicians. neal np: New York City Marathon - Katharina Franck (I'm listening to a Global Music radio show I hosted a few years ago to see if it is bearable for submitting to apply for a monthly spot hosting the show. It's not bad, but there are a few glitches on it that I hate to hear.) ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #234 ***************************
