Some of my Folk Alliance friends had been recommending her to me. I still haven't seen her, but her CD Survival (oddly enough, released on the unconnected to the above Hand-to-Mouth records) is an excellent bluesy, folksy CD. And this live thing really smolders. There are samples on her web page.<< Neal....i love Stefanie and have Survival CD and I haven't seen her live either but have to know where you got a live CD???????? Perhaps you could get a real copy by writing to Stefanie via her web site. I'd be perfectly happy to copy it for you for either cost or trade. neal np: Sun Gonna Shine - Kerri Simpson ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jul 2004 01:28:41 EDT From: Paul2k@aol.com Subject: sarah slean! I missed her first show at Genghis Cohen last night, but caught her at the Hotel Cafe tonight. As usual, she enraptured me. She's here for a month, doing a residency at Genghis and hitting other spots around L.A. (thanks Ger for pointing that out...I would've missed tonight's show otherwise). She was handing out free promo copies of her forthcoming album, Day One, at the show. It's produced and engineered by Peter Prilesnik, the same guy who co-produced Sarah Harmer's first album, You Were Here. His touch is quite apparent, resulting in an instantly catching album. Sarah's definitely moved away from the torchy, cabaret feel of Night Bugs, which I think should please a few of you here (hey meth!) with the production of the songs. It's strange, but in solo performance, the songs still retain that feel, but on the CD, it's nearly obscured. Hmm...so, Harmer puts out a good album earlier this year (which I just got around to buying), Slean has one coming in a month or two (Warner Canada, i'm not sure about U.S. distribution), and Leslie Feist has an album out in France now. What coincidence...when were they touring together? 1999? 2000? Paul Kim ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #188 ***************************
