I was wondering if Lollapalooza might actually bring the Dolls within driving distance of me, so I went to their web site and saw a brief note that the tour had been cancelled. A glance at Lollapalooza.com found a long rambling statement, and this shorter one: LOLLAPALOOZA, 2004 CANCELS ALL DATES "You can imagine the dismay I share at this moment with the artists and musicians who were looking forward to the tour. Lollapalooza could no longer see fit to continue this year. Our plight is a true indication of the general health of the touring industry and it is across musical genres. Unexhausted is our virtue. We are taking Lollapalooza back and plan on rebuilding and recreating the festival in surroundings more conducive to the cultural experience we've become known for." - - Perry Farrell neal now editing: Peter Mulvey House Concert ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jul 2004 18:08:44 -0400 (EDT) From: Sue Trowbridge Subject: Re: Dresden Dolls In my opinion, the acts booked for this year's Lollapalooza (Morrissey, PJ Harvey, Sonic Youth, etc.) appealed mostly to people north of 30, and while I can speak only for myself, there's no way in heck I'm going to spend 10 hours at my local Clear Channel-owned amphitheater, waiting in long lines for the restrooms and drinking $4 bottles of water. I hope these performers will be able to have more success "going it alone" at smaller theaters and clubs. - --Sue On Mon, 5 Jul 2004, neal copperman wrote: > LOLLAPALOOZA, 2004 CANCELS ALL DATES > > "You can imagine the dismay I share at this moment with the artists > and musicians who were looking forward to the tour. Personally I think they pulled the trigger a bit early on this one -- most everyone I know who was planning to go just plain hadn't gotten around to getting their tickets yet. Ticket sales for things like that tend to escalate as the date gets closer, not decline. That said, though, from a presenter's point of view I can see how they'd rather cut their losses early, rather than run the risk of losing their shirts. But still, I think they could've benefitted from hanging in there a little while longer. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 Jul 2004 20:39:33 -0400 From: fingerpuppets Subject: Re: Kristin Hersh in L.A. one time at band camp, Michael Curry said: >Of possible interest to L.A. area ectophiles.... and, of interest to a slightly larger set of geographic regions, tanya donnelly tour dates! http://www.beggars.com/us/tours/index.html#whiskeytangoghos Aug 11 - Boston, MA - The Paradise Aug 13 - New York, NY - Joe's Pub (two shows) Aug 16 - Los Angeles, CA - Largo Aug 17 - tba Aug 18 - San Francisco, CA - Cafe Du Nord her new rekkid, _whiskey tango ghosts_, is released on july 27th. woj ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #186 ***************************
