Well, apparently Mr. DeVivo Googles himself. :} Whoops. He didn't demand that I do this or anything, but it feels like the right thing to do: I retract everything I've ever said about the man. I'm the moron for forgetting about the power of Google in the digital age, especially as it relates to mailing list archives. Hopefully he'll see this and know that I wasn't just shoveling it in my response to him earlier. You may now continue with your day. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Jun 2004 12:26:16 -0700 (PDT) From: cyo@landoftheblind.com Subject: Re: did ya love the ecto-opera??? thank you ectos for your support of my music and voice for so long, and thanks for so many SF ectos showing up at the avant opera, verdi's troubadour, with Big City Orchestra!!!! at cafe du nord this last weekend! the radio folks loved it, the world wide broadcast went out, the Pink Dots loved our show, The Dots were great too, the club sold out each night, expose mag came and loved it, good reviews are coming in and videos are being made. Subject: eno remasters These have been mentioned before, and the other day, finding myself in a music shop and, at last, having a job, I swooped on those I found -- Taking Tiger Mountain, Here Come the Warm Jets and Before and After Science. And...and... Well, I remember corresponding with bill about the little message scratched into the run-off portion of the vinyl of one of eno's discs, and I wrote that I hoped the remasters would provide a similar thrill of hidden joys. Nope. My main beef is strictly cosmetic and package orientated: The three I got came encased in a tough plastic sleeve tht I had to break open to get at the digipack inside. I wondered how much extra this completely useless trapping cost, and when I opened it up, I found out where they'd made the savings. Outside, the album art is shrunk somewhat to fit on the digipack cover, so a lot of the detail (from HCTWJ) and colour (from TTM) are underserved. Inside, no attempt to reproduce the artwork or typography at all(although the cds themselves have artwork, which is nice). Simple black on white, boring font listings of songs and personnel and, when you remove the cd, a rather sniffy and humourless message is revealed about recording and sharing on the internet and how you musn't. And that's it. The original cd releases were more interesting in terms of reproducing the old record sleeves. As for the sound -- well, my ears aren't what they used to be, and I know they're not as fine as some of those out there on the list, but I don't hear much difference. Whereas the Gabriel remasters, I felt, leapt out at me, these don't. there were parts where I expected the vocals to practically sit on my shoulders, but they remain firmly in the speakers. After the Gabriel remasters and, in particular, the wonderful Nektar cd releases, I had hoped for sonic reinvigoration, but I'm rather disappointed. Gotta admit, though -- the music is still great. adam k. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Jun 2004 15:39:17 -0700 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Vienna Teng on KFOG "Local Scene" disc Just in case anyone's interested ... "Harbor" by Vienna Teng is one of the tracks on the upcoming KFOG "Local Scene" CD. It will be $5 and available in July. More info is available at: http://www.kfog.com/local_scene/local_scene.html The site includes song clips, as well as tells you where you can buy the full albums by each of the individual artists. Almost all of them sell through our friends at CDBaby. :) /nm ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #180 ***************************
