UK Ectophiles -- what do you know about Momo's? Is it the same Momo's that's a restaurant? Anybody know what it's like to see a gig there? Ellen, considering attending this show. ===== "Literature stops in 1100. Well, she wrote (and recorded a version of) "Saviour" well before Tony Visconti got Bowie to duet on it, so I doubt she had him in mind during the creative process. Perhaps if she had, it would've turned out a little bit differently. :) The duet with the Placebo guy, incidentally, is pretty cool because at times you really can't tell who is singing. I give much credit to Brian for that. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Jun 2004 12:42:10 -0400 From: meredith Subject: metric Hi, While driving back from seeing Nerissa & Katryna Nields with Common Rotation at Fez in NYC last night, we listened to a CD by a band called Metric. It was very, very cool, and I'm happy that there is a copy living downstairs* because that means we can listen to it until our own copy arrives. :) It's kind of electronica, kind of punk, and woj thinks the singer sounds like Weeping Tile-era Sarah Harmer, though I don't quite get that so much. I wouldn't at all be surprised to learn that there has been discussion of Metric here already and I just missed it ... has anyone ever seen them play? According to their site (http://www.ilovemetric.com) they are Canadian with a couple guys from the U.K. in the band, and they all now live in L.A. We also listened to PJ Harvey's new one, which I liked a lot better than I was expecting to, based on what I've read about it here. Must pick that one up soon, too. I think it's time for me to come to terms with the fact that in my old age I'm liking hard-edged crunchy stuff a lot more than I used to, so I should probably pull out Polly Jean's first two CDs and give them another try. Maybe I won't find them completely unlistenable any more. (Yes, my favorite PJ Harvey CD is _Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea_. I am fully aware that sometimes I live on Opposite Planet.) Oh, and for the record, the show at Fez was mighty fine. Nerissa and Katryna never do a bad show, and Common Rotation is a lot of fun. (I'm going to soak up as many Nields performances as I can over the next couple months, since Katryna is expecting again and who knows how long her next maternity leave is going to be...) * Have I mentioned that our end of the building is an ecto commune? Well, it is. Downstairs is becoming available at the end of the summer, though, so if any ectophiles are thinking of moving to New Haven and would like to have very cool upstairs neighbors while you're here, drop me a note. :) =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Jun 2004 14:02:44 -0500 From: Carolyn Andre Subject: Re: Susan McKeown, Momo's At 03:24 AM 6/12/2004, Ellen Rawson asked: >Although it's not on her website yet (that I could >find), the Froots magazine that arrived with today's >post has an advert stating that Susan McKeown will >play at Momo's in London on 29 June. sorry. due to webmaster error.
