Roughly 10% of the time I was thinking just what an amazing voice Sarah has. And far too much of the rest of the time I was being annoyed at the far too loud drums and guitars and wondering if I had entered some weird kind of space-time anomaly which had deposited me centerstage at pinkpop. I came for beautiful music - and I got a lot of noise. :/ (Oh, and a pretty lightshow, but I would happily have traded such shininess for more auditory beauty.) Yet, whenever the drums and guitars faded away (beginnings and endings mostly), that Voice shone through again... I agree that Fear was amazing, but the highlight of the show for me was the 2nd encore, which was just Sarah on the piano, doing "Angel". An entire song of music at a decent volume, heart-touchingly beautiful. _That_ saved my impression of at least Sarah. I can only dream of what she must've been like when she wasn't big and could do small intimate and _quiet_ shows... :) But I think that in the future I'll stick to her cd's and keep my live concert money for the likes of Bic and Happy. (Either that or follow the example of the people on stage: wear earplugs.) I think), that they acknowledge things have been a mess, and they're trying to sort things out and get folks paid as quickly as they can. They say they're focusing on getting current payments out before tackling their debt. They haven't paid *me* anything lately ... or ever ... but my inventory doesn't exactly fly off the shelves; I think they're still working on my original consignment. Whether there's any truth to their claims or not kinda remains to be seen. But at least they sometimes answer emails now, which is progress over not answering emails ever. I would have to think that there must be numerous actions pending against them at this point. And I'll add my own ringing endorsement of CD Baby. Good luck! Wow. So after 10 years, she's *still* doing the Fumbling tour. Amazing. Now I don't feel so bad for blowing off her upcoming Connecticut gig. The Hartford Civic Center is a great place to watch the UConn women's basketball team go to their fifth straight Final Four, but it can't possibly be even a marginally okay place to see a concert. The working title for this CD, scheduled for a 2005 release, is "Shells." (Shells, as you know, are covers of turtles, and the word also conveniently contains the pronoun "she.") We are looking for women artists and female-fronted bands to submit demos of covers of Turtles songs, both hits and lesser-known recordings, for consideration. Performances in all styles of music are welcome. This will be our label's fifth release and fourth all-women's tribute. Our previous releases include "Saturday Night Hay Fever" (bluegrass covers of disco hits), "Love Her Madly" (women cover The Doors), and "Spiders From Venus" (women cover David Bowie). Also, scheduled for release this fall is our women's tribute to Joe Jackson entitled "Different for Girls." For more information, please visit our website at http://www.skippingdiscs.com and click on the "submissions" link at the top of the page. We would appreciate it if you passed this information along to anyone you think might be interested or post it on any music-related message boards you may belong to. I couldn't wait to get up this morning and play it again!! The guy is only 21 and the cd features trad English folk songs - highly produced and rocked up with some really interesting sequencing and beats. He's really put the "drama" back into these songs. Not your normal folk rock album - this is really different. It won the BBC folk album of the year last year. Jim was here in Adelaide (Sth Australia) during the Fringe Festival this year but we missed him as we had tickets to something else that night - hopefully he'll come back. My background is in English folk but frankly with the exception of Eliza Carthy and Nancy Kerr/James Fagan I've been a bit uninspired lately. But this has got me excited about folk music again. Perhaps not one for the purists though (maybe that's why I like it so much???) His website : http://www.jimmoray.co.uk Bronny "The finished album 'Sweet England' is unlike anything else from the folk world. It is an album as contemporary as the artist who made it. Jim Moray has breathed new life into some of the oldest and most beautiful English songs ever written. From the Mingus-like trumpet of Gypsies, to the electronic soundscapes of The Seeds of Love, to the vinyl hiss on Two Sisters, he has created a stunning collection of recordings, each arranged without restriction or reverence, but in perfect keeping with the irresistible and timeless stories of loves lost, lives taken and journeys travelled...." I agree entirely with Bronny's comments. There are only a few folk artists that I care about anymore since so much of it now is prettified and/or New Age-y or otherwise have all the rough edges filed off. I found Jim Moray's versions dramatic and interesting, and _Sweet England_ has gotten a lot of play at our house. The energy he approaches traditional music with is like Eliza Carthy's to me.
