Although you could possibly argue with some validity >that yodelling in general is A Bad Thing and might ruin a show for some >people. Believe everything you read? I talked to two people who were at that show and they said this article was so much hogwash it's one of the most untrue articles ever written. Remember how people used to get visibly upset when Jewel would sing "Pieces Of You" because they they thought Jewel was anti-gay and anti-Semetic and if they had only LISTENED TO THE WORDS they would have realized how off-base they were? Same goes here. Jewel was NOT making fun of people, she was telling one of the stories she has told for the better part of a decade now. As for the on-stage for an hour and four or five songs? Not true, she sang her normal setlist for this show. Nothing extra, but if was the normal length show (I forgot the numbers, but it was in the teens...from what I was told) As for the short encore, that's 100% true and warranted too. The Hampton Beach Casino Club is notorious for horrible/disprespectful crowds, especially on a Saturday night (it was horrible when I saw Jewel there in August 1996...people walked out of that show too...because the crowd sucked. I felt like leaving myself and my only previous Jewel show had been JewelStock the month before). From what I was told this crowd was no different. Very unruly, very noisy, very disrespectful from the get-go and the just would NOT SHUT UP. Respect the artist and you get a good encore, if you are there to just drink your beers, get drunk, talk at the top of your voice all show long and yell crude remarks to the artist, you are lucky to get a one-song encore. All that talking by the crowd also led to the misunderstandings by that articles' author and the people he quoted as they didn't even know she was just telling one of the many stories she's been telling for years. Not defending J because I run a list for her here at smoe...heck, I haven't even listened to her last three CDS but a total of 3 times (one of then ZERO times)...just defending her because the article is pure hogwash, Mike ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 May 2004 16:46:34 -0400 From: Kosterhaudt@aol.com Subject: Problems for Happy Hi Ecto, You all know by now that H's CD's are not available through CDstreet.com anymore. They stole over $600 from her CD sales and it doesn't look like that'll ever be retrieved. Sadly, it gets worse. Upon trying to get her inventory back from them, they turned Fed-Ex away without her CD's. In other words, I used my Fed-Ex account (following CDstreet's instructions and blessings) scheduled a pick up for the product, then emailed and left a message at CDstreet to expect the pick up on a particular day. They cancelled the pick up. The inventory is worth about $4,000. Now I don't know what else to do. HR is not the only artist to have been sorely injured by them. There are a bunch of artists who're being told to make a complaint to the Better Business Bureau of Texas, but that accomplishes absolutely zilch. We've already done that. I don't know if boycotting CDstreet is the right call, because I'd hate to see even more artists not get paid. But something has to be done. I did a search online for complaints about CDSTREET and it's unbelievable how many people they've not paid. So, if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on this topic, please feel free to email me at kosterhaudt@aol.com. I'm at my wits end. I'd never seen her perform live before, save the time at The Bitter End last year when she jumped up on stage to sing backup one one of Holly Figueroa's songs, but that turned out to be enough to know she'd definitely be worth the risk. Too bad we didn't have more people here to see her. Kym should appeal to those who like the Edie Carey, Holly Figueroa and Kris Delmhorst kind of thing. Go see her if she comes to your area (and at the rate she's driving herself around the country, she'll probably play near you at some point), and be sure to say hello after the show. She's a really sweet, funny person that we really enjoyed putting up for two nights when she was here. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 May 2004 21:47:00 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: Vegetable Orchestra Re: & Jessy Delfino & Kristeen Young Hi, kIrI (hi!!!!!!!) resurfaced: >Also, Did I miss the last Kristeen Young show in the area - I stupidly >forgot to put the shows on my calendar. As is her wont, the lyrics aren't all listed, but the cover warns me that they contain 'moderate impact coarse language and/or themes' (lots of 'fucks'). Not the elegant story-songs of Is this desire?, then. karen __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo!
