I used to work with Kate (the singer), but last I'd heard from her, two years ago or so, the project had never really gotten off the ground. This is on my must-buy list. (BTW, I had wandered off from reading Ecto around the beginning of March, when my life started going berserk (as readers of my blog know in perhaps too much detail). But an encounter at the store with someone who turned out to be a lurking Ectophile himself has encouraged me to get back on to reading, so I've been skimming through the 700 piled-up messages. Lo and behold, three of the four cuts (are they still "cuts" > on a cd?) feature vocals by our own Ms. Rhodes! Is anyone maintaining a discography of Happy's guest appearances? They seem to be multiplying, and I know I've missed some. This is the quantum-annual mailing. If you don't get the mailing, and you're on the list, it means I have the wrong email address. Please send me the correct one and I'll update the data file. If you aren't on the list and want to be, just send me your birthday information and I'll add it. All I need is the month and day; if you provide year, the script will figure out what day of the week you were born on. I'll use the email address you sent the request from unless you specify otherwise. If you wish to have a personalized label, give that as well (it defaults to the appropriate zodiac sign). Also note that I won't remove any entry from the list unless explicitely asked to (hopefully by the person who asked for it, but I haven't really been tracking that). Thanks. I have some exciting news; I have begun recording my first album! Yes it's finally happening after many requests and preparation, recording began in January with the first song recorded being "When You're Wearing My Pyjama's" which caused quite a stir (in a good way) on my recent European Tour. This is a wacky, upbeat rockabilly/folk tune that I wrote just before the tour. This one definitely had a mind of it's own and it's been great seeing the outcome. I don't normally write this style of music but the response to this song live has been phenomenal and I just knew it had to be part of the album. The album which will be called "Peculiar Places" will be recorded in Melbourne and London predominately and will feature many of the musicians that have played with me over the past three years such as Ambika Taylor on piano and accordion, Cat Leahy on drums/percussion, Alicia Charleston on guitar/bass, Caerwen Martin on cello, Claire Fischer on viola and Sara Oliver on violin (whom I know is a favourite of a lot of you out there). As well as familiar faces there will be some surprise guest appearances such as Mal Webb on trumpet, trombone and bass, Tony Floyd on drums/percussion as well as other musicians who I am very excited about but for now I am sworn to secrecy! This album is something I have been dreaming about doing for a long time; A mini string orchestra on selected tracks, brass harmonies, funky beats, flamenco guitars as well as some signature acoustic tunes and lot's more. It's basically what I do live but with extra instruments and textures so there will be something for everyone! I have applied for music grants within Australia and will be putting in as much money as I have but to make this a reality I need your support. I am going to do what many independent artists have done and pre-sell the CD to raise the money to help complete the CD. Basically what I am asking of you is to have faith that this CD is going to happen and to purchase it before it has been completed. That means you be partially responsible for the creation of "Peculiar Places" and will be taking part (in a big way) in the preservation of independent music. As a special thank you to the people who pre purchase the album I am making an exclusive 5 track EP called ACOUSTIC & Peculiar. This CD will only be available to people who pre purchase the album and will contain 5 non album tracks including "You Don't Look Like Your Photograph", "Spank Me Man", "Balloon" and more, available in Sept/Oct 2004. But that's not all! Everyone gets an album sampler to keep them going until the album is ready which will be sent out in June 2004 and their name printed in the CD under thank yous! Phew ok that's all I have to give! :) You can listen to the some of the pre production demo's for the new album here. If you would like to pre purchase the album it costs $18 US/$26 AUS/$11 GBP including shipping and you can pay with paypal to emaline@emalinedelapaix.com or by regular credit card, money order or cheque at cdstreet (shipping extra). Of course you can also send the cash in any currency for the equivalent amount securely wrapped via snail mail to me @ PO BOX 210 Prahran Melbourne Victoria Australia 3181. If you have any questions feel free to email me at emaline@emalinedelapaix.com and I will be more than happy to answer them. I appreciate your help and hope you like the new songs. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- USA / CAN / UK / EU TOUR "July / Aug / Sept 2004" Come down, have a laugh and support Emaline & Alicia as they play musical cellists (a different one accompanying them in each state!) on their upcoming tour adventure to The Canadian Rockies, The Big Apple, Old London Town & many more exotic places.
