Highly recommended for lovers of quirk and available > through CDBaby. wow, according to CDBaby Inner is actually Jennifer Turner, the guitarist who played on Natalie Merchant's 'Tigerlily', among others. If this is the person responsible for that beautiful, haunting guitar on 'I might know the word', then I like it already. Though if the samples are representative of the album, it sounds more like PJ Harvey than Natalie Merchant :) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 May 2004 03:00:05 -0400 (EDT) From: Mike Matthews Subject: Today's your birthday, friend... i*i*i*i*i*i i*i*i*i*i*i *************** *****HAPPY********* **************BIRTHDAY********* *************************************************** *************************************************************************** ******************* Michael Colford (colford@attbi.com) ******************* *************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Michael Colford Wed May 16 1962 Taurus Christopher Boek Tue May 19 1970 Taurus Julia Macklin Mon May 20 1968 ethereus Yngve Hauge Fri May 21 1971 Gemini Lisa Laane Tue May 22 1973 Gemini Jewel Kilcher Thu May 23 1974 The Gem Chandra Sriram Thu May 27 1971 Gemini Taina Sahlander Mon May 28 1973 Gemini Urs Stafford Thu May 31 1973 Give Way Perttu Yli-Krekola Thu June 02 1966 Kaksoset Alex Gibbs Thu June 08 1967 Betelgeuse Gleb Zverev Tue June 09 1964 Gemini Sonja Juchniewich Mon June 10 1963 Pegasus Joerg Plate Mon June 12 1967 Gemini Chris Montville Tue June 13 1978 Gemini Ectoplasm (original name) Mailing List Thu June 13 1991 Fuzzier blue Paul Huesman Wed June 14 1967 coffee drinker Mark R. I once gave someone a tape of non-english singers and she gave it back, saying that she could not listen without knowing what was being said. I like Autour and Varrttinaa (sp w/ dots) and listen to the new Tori or KaTe or HR a number of times before I read the lyrics and find out what it is about. Chime in. And, again self promo watch "Black/White and Brown" on PBS about Brown v Topeka Board of Education and find my name in the end credits. 8-) bye, KrW I'm Peter Pan! I'm perpetually young!! OW!! Awesome stuff. Probably could be called genuinely ecclectic. I was always a big fan of Jen Turner's work with Nat Merchant, and then her heavy metal band Furslide. The funny thing is there's rarely any muscular guitar riffing on Inner's albums. She uses a lot of acoustic on top of trippy, techno-esque textures. There's also quite a bit of Fender rhodes. I really dig her singing. Very broken and genuine. joe joe and ellen music http://www.jotdot.net/joeandellen ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 May 2004 09:52:45 -0700 From: Neile Graham Subject: Re: Inner's _love the only way_ andrew fries wrote: >Though if the samples are representative of the album, it sounds >more like PJ Harvey than Natalie Merchant :) You're right that there's more PJ Harvey in it than Natalie Merchant--it definitely has PJ Harvey's uncompromising spirit. There are several softer/broken-feeling songs than Harvey would ever do: "broken and genuine" as Joe says, describes it well. - --Neile - -- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neile Graham .... neile@sff.net/@drizzle.com ... www.sff.net/people/neile Les Semaines: A Weekly Journal ........ www.sff.net/people/neile/semaines Editor, The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music ........... www.ectoguide.org Workshop Administrator, Clarion West ................ www.clarionwest.org ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #138 ***************************
