Kinda! Hi, My station has just made a documentary called, "Black/White and Brown." About the Brown v Topeka Board of Education. Many local PBS stations will be airing it this week or next. If one watches it my name can be seen in the end credits. I just wish they had used a blockier font 8-) Bye, N.R: Shadow Over Baker Street.: S. Holmes in Lovecraft's reality. Subject: pj harvey -- new one and tate gig The Tate gig sold out within minutes. I really wanted to go, but as soon as the phone lines opened, they were jammed, and then it was sold out. I still don't know how they did anything in such a huge, cavernous space. I didn't see the exhibit Neal spoke of, but I saw the next one a couple of times and it was....wow. A huge, sun-like disc high up on the wall, mirrored cieling, a room bathed in orange light and mist. It turned the place into more of a "happening" than an exhibit, as everyone wandered around the huge room or lay on the floor and stared up at the cieling. Far, far out, man... Where was I? Oh, yeah -- Polly Harvey is on the cover of this week's Time Out London, as well, talking about her new album. She cites it as a return to her grungier, lo-fi roots, with "To Bring You My Love" style stuff mixed in. Now THAT I could be into, but I'll believe it when I hear it. adam k. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 May 2004 19:02:07 -0000 From: "neal copperman" Subject: Re: pj harvey -- new one and tate gig "Adam K." said: > I > didn't see the exhibit Neal spoke of, but I saw the next one a couple of > times and it was....wow. I didn't realize when I went to the Tate that the sculpture I saw was part of the annual Unilever sight specific installations series. The one Adam described is fourth in the series. These are major and magnificent interactive art environments. It would probably take some pretty innovative web designer to adequately represent them on the web. Despite dropping a lot of money to fund these works, Unilever doesn't seem up to documenting them in that way. You can see what they came up with here: http://www.unileverseries.com/ It's pretty weak, but still interesting if you are curious. Continuing in the non-music art vein, I saw Joyce Carol Oates do a reading and discussion in Santa Fe last night and found her compelling and intriguing. I saw her read a decade ago and continue to be intrigued. I'm not sure why I haven't read any of her novels, and only own two short story collections... neal np: All That Jazz on KUNM ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #135 ***************************
