I recently saw her at a house concert in San Francisco and was very impressed. Despite being a bit late, I managed a front-row seat -- why are people _afraid_ of the front row? -- and caught a set and a half of smart, entertaining acoustic folk. Sam alternated between electric and acoustic guitars, mixing in an a capella number while she changed the a guitar string. Hearing about rooftops in New York from a woman playing barefoot had my mind drifting to thoughts of Sophie B. Hawkins. Guitar riffs reminded me of Andrew Kerr. Allusions aside, I enjoyed Sam's voice, lyrics, and, of course, stories. Song-wise, "Eldorado" was a highlight. 'Uh Huh Her' is due out 31 May in the UK, and the single 'The Letter' is due 17 May. Has anyone heard anything or know anything? Her web presence is dreadful, or rather, limited, which is good for mystique, but sucky for info. Karen __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Win a $20,000 Career Makeover at Yahoo! In the May issue of the British music rag MOJO there's a big picture of P.J. sporting her new look, with a short interview. I don't have the MOJO with me but I remember she said something to the effect this was a"fun" album, which people don't usually associate with her. - -J > 'Uh Huh Her' is due out 31 May in the UK, and the single 'The Letter' is > due 17 May.
