Sometimes I'm slow and miss things, but there's not a lot of excuse for my having missed you until eight years after you broke up (the first time). I sense penitence in my future. Also, a comparison to Sandy Denny-era Fairport Convention certainly gets my attention. The iTunes store asks me "did you mean Cuban Unknown?" when I ask for Susan Mckeown. :P time to broaden my horizons. Yes, yes, yes. The _Sweet Liberty_ CD is wonderful, as are all of her albums, but not all of them are trad stuff. (Her rock material is billed as "Susan McKeown And The Chanting House".) Her other trad albums are _Lowlands_ and _Bushes And Briars_. You can't go wrong with any of them. You can get more info and order at http://www.susanmckeown.com. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Apr 2004 22:19:34 -0500 From: Greg Dunn Subject: Re: Hayley Westenra A friend from NZ found it in his local store last year, and sent it my way. I wouldn't call it earth-shattering, but she has a very mellifluous voice and does credit to the material (or vice versa!). Well worth listening to if you like crystal-clear and versatile voices. The KaTe cover is very nice too. - -- - -- | Greg Dunn | "And I don't think it's my | | gregdunn@indy.net | fault... you never get what | | The Sultan of Slack(tm) | you want." | | http://www.indy.net/~gregdunn/ | Patty Griffin | ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Apr 2004 15:54:05 -0700 From: cyo@landoftheblind.com Subject: CYO and DAH BLIND this THURS, Starry Plough, Berkeley it's Pagan Women's Night and Cyo messes with KATE, SINEAD and HEDNINGARNA!!! Also from that general period, if you like the odd cuts and instrumentals on that release you could try Cluster & Eno's "After the Heat", or Eno/Byrne's "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" If you're looking for more vocals, you could also try David Bowie's "Low", "Heroes" and "Lodger", or Talking Heads' "Fear of Music" and "Remain In Light", all of which have Eno's unmistakable imprint... For quirky pop songs and instrumentals I also think Eno's "Nerve Net" is one of his best. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
