"Between the house concerts and odds and ends other activities out here, I find myself on some pretty odd mailing lists. Today I just got a request (sent to a presumably large list of people in the region) to present Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood. It's not going to happen, but check out Nancy Sinatra's band: Clem Burke, drums (Blondie), Gilbey Clarke, guitar (Guns & Roses), Lanny Cordolla, guitar (House Of Lords), Tom Lilly, bass(Mick Fleetwoods Zoo, Jefferson Starship), Don Randi, keys (The Wrecking Crew, Phil Spector's "house band"). Pretty odd mix of folks. I'd almost be tempted to see that show." um well she sang these boots and did some lovely work with lee hazelwood..that would be good enough for me. plus morrissey and jarvis coker has written new songs for her. take a shot,if it sucks blame me. thanks for recommending incus..that seems like gret stuff. anna maria np-firewater-man on the burning tightrope __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Phillips" Subject: Matthew Ward/2nd Chapter of Acts? Hi all, Is there anyone who remotely sounds like Matthew Ward and/or The 2nd Chapter of Acts, but who is/are a secular singer/group?? I have adored this group for so long, but I just cannot listen to the music anymore for very long. I did hear (don't cringe) a voice coming over the speakers in a Hallmark store a couple months ago; and I thought, "OMG, it's Matthew Ward!"...but it turned out to be Clay Aiken. On further listening to Clay Aiken, I find he has only traces of the incredible vocal talent that is Matthew Ward's. As far as I know the only time Matthew Ward has performed secular music is with Donna Summer in a duet called "Love Has A Mind of Its Own" on her "She Works Hard For The Money" album. Any input and further information or pointers would be greatly appreciated! TIA! fleur ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Apr 2004 13:24:48 EDT From: Toriamosrising@aol.com Subject: Fwd: Which Happy songs would you choose ? The kicker here is that, if anyone picks up the show, it'll probably be a casino. I try not to send any of my money there. Plus it's a holiday weekend with a ton of stuff already going on. Here's another amusing observation: That same weekend is Wiminfest here in Albuquerque. They always bring in some great musicians for that, which I can enjoy a lot if I don't mind being one of a very small number of non-wimin in the audience. This year brings folks like Toshi Regan, Bitch & Animal, Pamela Means and Magdelin Hsu-Li. Of course, we all know that "Magdalen is one of the first Chinese-American singer-songwriters in the United States who is becoming a star in the acoustic/pop/folk/alternative genres." Funny thing is that we may have the chance to present Vienna Teng the next night. > thanks for recommending incus..that seems like great stuff. Interesting that while people have named their favorite songs from "Many Worlds", no one has named my two favorites: "The Chariot" and "Looking Over Cliffs"... so telling of the consistency and quality of the songs on that release. It's so difficult to recommend favorite songs when introducing people to her music as there are so many. Forced to pare the list to a manageable number I tend to recommend what for me are her three essential releases: "Many Worlds", "The Keep", and "Warpaint". If I had to choose individual songs, I find these are the ones I return to over and over in this rough order more than others, for inspiration, relaxation, and just to put me in a great mood... Temporary And Eternal The Chariot Lay Me Down Mother Sea Summer Words Weren't Made For Cowards If So Looking Over Cliffs Warpaint For We Believe Many Worlds Are Born Tonight Just Like Tivoli The Revelation Murder If Wishes Were Horses Feed The Fire Look For The Child Prey of the Strange Save Our Souls Ode And her covers of: Mercy Street Dont Dream Its Over Here Comes the Flood And Dream of Sheep I could go on... and on.... and on....... and my friends will tell you... I do. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
