Not the most cost effective option for breakfast, even at a discount (the regular price exceeds $3). They had several variants of the stuff, one of which had a man and a woman on the box (so much for this being marketed as being to cereal as Lifetime is to cable :-) ). One of them had the puffed rice and whatever else is in the kashi laced with bran twigs (I am not making this up) and crunchy granola (so much for the idea that the basic ingredients are good all by themselves). I'll have to hand it to my seemingly elusive morning favorite: I have yet to see a dismissive capsule review of a singer-songwriter, that likened her to Dominick's Honey Nut Shredded Wheat :-). It's a cereal that ectophiles could eat with confidence. Kashi is my favorite breakfast cereal. I have been eating it every day for 2-3 years now. I prefer the original GoLean variety, which has a whopping 10 grams of fiber and 13 grams of protein per 3/4 cup serving. It has bran twigs and no granola, but I find it to be perfectly tasty. I eat it with strawberries (in season) or with Trader Joe's frozen blueberry/raspberry/blackberry mix. I pay around $2.75 for a 14-ounce box at TJ's, so I find it to be quite cost-effective, not to mention very healthy and filling! I had never realized that there might be a connection between my enjoyment of Kashi and keyboard-playing female singer/songwriters before I was "enlightened" by the Vienna Teng review. :-P - --Sue On Sun, 11 Apr 2004 mapravat@prairienet.org wrote: > Yesterday at the supermarket, I noticed they had the basic grade of kashi > on sale for $2.53 for a 7.5 ounce box. I chose it because it had cool cover art and the song titles were in English. Understanding this is not always the best way to choose music, I was expecting a disaster. Especially since the store clerk looked at my other purchases (a Jeff Buckley bootleg, 2 Smiths CDs and a Radiohead boot) and said, when pointing to Marie's CD, "Is this a gift?" But, I'm happy to report that I really liked it. It's unavailable here and her second CD, "Vermillion" is also not available here. I was lucky enough to do a trade with Anna Maria (thanks!) so that I could get my hands on it. Anyway...my point for writing is this...her NEW CD, "Swimmingly" is now available at CD Baby! I pleaded with one of her band members to put it up there and he did! Her first two CDs are not Indie but this one is. Here's my review: http://www.collectedsounds.com/cdreviews/swimmingly.html and here's where you can buy/listen: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mariefrank/from/collectedsounds In case you don't want to go to my site, here's a snippet of the review: "This EP starts out a little odd, in that we hear the voice of Niell C. Furio whispering, "It's not so much the skinny, as the dipping...." OK, that's probably true! But the next track gets right into the old Marie Frank that I know and love. "Drowningly" is a gorgeous techno-ish song that actually does make you feel like you're in water. It's got a beautiful melody that uses minor chords giving the listener a bit of an uneasy feeling as well as calm...which I am told drowning is very much like anyway. "Scrabble-Ina" is a cute pop song that Furio talks about on Frank's website. He said he was inspired by playing a game of Scrabble with a partner and she spelled "leave" when she could have easily spelled something else (love?) and how telling that was. The rest of the songs are equally as charming. Frank's voice is sweet and innocent while still being sexy. It helps that she is physically the cutest thing since puppies and kitties (she looks a little like Meg Ryan). Why is it always the EPs that are so good I want them to go on forever? Pass it on if you want. Jess Some fans of Tracy Grammer have taken it upon themselves to start a fund to raise money to replace her aging violin. Tracy's current violin is one she has had since the 7th grade and is 220 years old. It has been having various problems and several violin-makers and repairmen have told her she will need to retire it, there is nothing more to do for it. Since the death of her partner, Dave Carter, in July 2002, Tracy does not have a lot of extra money for things like this. Playing the violin is an integral part of the beautiful music Tracy brings us, that has touched so many of our lives. Many people feel that this is a perfect way to give back to her. A web site has been set up where you can donate via PayPal and also read Tracy's full story about the violin (from her last email newsletter), which she and Dave had dubbed "The Wounded Healer". http://thewoundedhealer.com If you don't want to do PayPal or credit cards, you can send a check to the address below (which is Tracy's mom, who handles her merchandise and has agreed to help with this). Tracy Grammer c/o Judy Hensley 5001 Brownlow Lane Knoxville, TN 37938-2102 You can also see Tracy's own web site at http:/www.tracygrammer.com to read more about her or get tour dates (she is currently on tour on the east coast). ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #102 ***************************
