Out of the last three series, it's hard for me to choose my fave, but as I think Miranda Richardson is one of the best actresses alive, I usually plump for the elizabethan one. For sheer lunacy, however, you can't beat Father Ted. They only made two series of this, as the lead actor died hours after the completion of the second one, but if it ever comes your way see this wonderfully surreal, off-the-wall comedy, and wonder at it. I used to have most of series one on tape, but somebody's walked off with it. Oh, and while I'm recommending Brit stuff, if the series "Shameless" ever makes it over the pond, see THAT. Meanwhile, I'm hoping for the second series of Twin Peaks on DVD, but know that if I go too far down that road, there'd be no stopping me, and I'd be reliving my youth on DVD -- MASH, The Carol Burnett Show, Northern Exposure (oh, how I loved that one!)-it would all be too much! adam k. too broke to join in the cdbaby feeding frenzy, and forced to stick to the necessities. - ----------------------------------------------- This mail sent through http://webmail.zoom.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Mar 2004 19:22:35 -0500 From: "JoAnn Whetsell" Subject: blame sally I checked their website today thinking they might have something new out, and they do! Their cd release party for their new self-titled album is being held on April 3 in San Francisco. Check out their website http://www.blamesally.com for 2 mp3s from the new release, ordering, and details on the cd release show. Their first album, Live No. 1, is available at CD Baby, and there are clips there. Blame Sally is an all-female quartet, sort of folk-influenced pop, a lot of piano, diverse influences, great harmonies. All 4 members are great instrumentalists. That's a lousy description, but I've never been able to capture their sound in words. It's not all that "different," yet it's far from run-of-the-mill. The samples will tell the story. Anyway, anybody in the Bay Area should check them out. JoAnn - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Free up your inbox with MSN Hotmail Extra Storage. Okay, so non-DM fans can probably skip this one. After all, DM aren't really ectophilic, technically speaking. Still, I figure there's at least a bit of crossover. :) There are plenty of bands who have tried over the years to pick up where Gore, Gahan and co. left off with their last compelling album seven years ago -- Camouflage, Cause & Effect, De/Vision, possibly VNV Nation -- but IMHO, the first band to seriously pull it all together is a Bristol-based trio called Mesh. In fact, I'd stack _Who Watches Over Me?_ (their 2002 release) up against _Violator_ and consider even the latter landmark album lucky to escape with a draw. The only downside is that _WWOM_ still isn't out in the U.S. -- though various earlier releases are -- despite Mesh's recent signing to Sony/Columbia. I therefore feel obliged to provide a few MP3s as I wait for justice to be done. See what you think, if you're into that kind of thing. http://highwire.stanford.edu/~straffin/LeaveYouNothing.mp3 http://highwire.stanford.edu/~straffin/FourWalls.mp3 http://highwire.stanford.edu/~straffin/ICantImagineHowItHurts.mp3 http://highwire.stanford.edu/~straffin/FriendsLikeThese.mp3 Ethan ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Mar 2004 20:52:54 -0800 From: Ethan Straffin Subject: Tribe's _Here at the Home_ Has anyone by any chance burned a CD of this, now that the original release is loster than lost? One of these decades, I still need to hear it. Looks like _Abort_ went out of print...again. I hate that. It would still be on my list of ten desert-island discs.
