Terra Naomi is playing. You should come! RSVP. Suggested donation: $10. Monday, March 8, 2004. 8 p.m. Sharp. Sunnyvale, California 94085, United States of America, Earth What's going on - --------------------------------------------- After an extended hiatus, I'm once again hosting house concerts. This month's performance features New York-born, LA-based singer-songwriter Terra Naomi. When Terra isn't admonishing me for overusing hyphens, she's touring around the country playing bars, coffee houses and festivals. She plays piano- and guitar-based pop-folk (damn, there I go again!). About Terra - --------------------------------------------- Terra has played at the Aspen Music Festival, CMJ, the Midwest Music Summit, Bumbershoot and the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. She's been featured in Performing Songwriter, Dirty Linen, Independent Songwriter, Indie-music.com and Indiecrit.com. Rumour has it she can walk and chew gum at the same time. Terra's web site, with all the goodies, including MP3s: http://www.terranaomi.com/ Terra's blog: http://terranaomi.blogs.com/ Okay, I'm interested, what now? - --------------------------------------------- Email me to RSVP, and let me know how many people are coming with you. If the number changes, email me that, too. RSVPing is really important. Truly. FAQ (new questions marked with **) - --------------------------------------------- Q: So what is a house concert, anyway? A: It's a great way to see music. You get to hear acoustic music in an intimate setting, free from drunken frat boys, weasels in suits, loud talkers and smoke. **Q: Where in your house is this? A: In my living room. Q: I've listened to the MP3s, and I'm not sure. Should I still come? A: Yes, come! Music is best experienced live, and if you've never been to a house concert, now's a great time to start. **Q: When should I arrive? A: Between 7:30 and 7:59 is good. Q: Can I blog about this concert? A: Sure. Please direct people to RSVP to terra@paulschreiber.com. Don't post my other email address on the web for spambots. Q: Can I bring a friend? A: Yes, please do. RSVP them, too. Q: Can I bring a date? A: Sure. Q: Can I bring my Mom? A: Yessiree. Q: Who gets the money? A: Terra. Every cent. Q: Will she have CDs and merch for sale? A: You betcha. Q: But it's a school night... A: That's not a question. Q: You know what I mean! A: Don't worry, we'll be done between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Q: Should I bring anything? A: Drinks and snacks will be provided, but if you'd like to bring something to share, I'd be really grateful. Q: What time does this start again? A: 8 p.m. Sharp. Like good cheddar. Remember, it's a school night. Q: Where exactly is your house? A: When you RSVP, you will get a confirmation with directions. **Q: How do I get to your house if I don't have a car? A: First, I live less than a mile from the Sunnyvale Caltrain station. You can walk, or I can pick you up. Second, I can try and arrange a car pool with other folks coming from your area. Lastly, VTA bus 55 drops you off two blocks from my house. Q: What if I have a question that's not answered here? A: Email me, I'll be happy to answer. My face is frozen into a grin that will probably take days to go away. Chris and I watched the show in our home theater in HD, it looked so beautiful! We were whooping and clapping and holding hands and laughing and whooping and kissing and clapping and having the time of our lives. This is the BEST OSCARS EVER for me. It'll never again get this good. I got 21/24, missing Documentary, Animated Short and Live Action Short (I hadn't seen any of them though. I'd seen everything else). I predicted a sweep for LOTR, but it was more wishful thinking than really believing it. Thank goodness for a "boring" Oscar telecast! I'm thrilled with ROTK's 11, to tie with Ben-Hur and Titanic for the most wins, and making the record books for the biggest sweep in Oscar history. I'm thrilled with Charlize Theron and Sean Penn winning. I'm happy for Tim Robbins, and I guess I'm glad that Renee finally got one, even though I was pulling for Shohreh. All the women looked gorgeous, the jokes weren't as bad as I feared, it was great seeing Francis Ford's bursting pride, all 5 songs were wonderful (for once), it was fantastic to see "Mitch and Mickey" stop and kiss, and one of the highlights of the night (besides, you know, the big one, the big one) was seeing "Belleview Rendezvous" performed live. I knew that The Triplets of Belleville, one of my favorite films from last year, had no chance at Animated Feature, but it got 2 nominations, and that's just fantastic. Keisha's nomination, fantastic! LOTR fangirl that I am, I was still secretly hoping that City of God would pull off Editing and Cinematography, but it got 4 nominations, and that's fantastic. The sweep couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of people. What a night! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Mar 2004 09:30:13 -0600 From: "Doug" Subject: Re: Ecto comes through again. Then, that copy of the file is registered to your name. Now you can turn around and sell it to anyone else from your own website... you get 20% of each sale, Weed gets 15%, and the artist still gets their 50%. The person you bought it from now gets only 10%... ETC. You can sell it to as many people as you want, and you get 20% each time. When each of those people sell it, they get the 20%, and you get 10%... and so on, with the artist still getting 50% every time. This is oversimplified, but captures the essence. Go to weedshare.com for more info. btw - paypal is currently the method of payment. anyway... this is one way that fans can help artists directly. i'm hoping this system will turn out to be a good model for the future of digital distribution. i'll be sure to post if-and-when we encode some material this way ourselves. any feedback on weedfile experiences would be MUCH appreciated!!! much love-- anji ========================== ~ L O V E S P I R A L S ~ http://www.lovespirals.com ========================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Mar 2004 08:02:40 -0800 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: Ecto comes through again. They sound like someone had the vinyl playing in the next room, and someone sat in the bathroom with the water running and a mini cassette recorder in their hands, then converted that to CD-R. In general, I agree that a 'real' bootleg has higher value than a burnt CD-R. It has some value as a collector's item, not to mention that you don't have to worry about its lineage. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the burnt CD-Rs that are being sold are simply MP3s that were downloaded then converted to audio and put on the disc. :/ /nm ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Mar 2004 15:56:42 +1100 From: andrew fries Subject: Re: BEST OSCARS EVER!
