Too much stuff! > > Paul Funny I was just wondering what MIRANDA LEE RICHARDS was up to. i discovered her little gem of an album in the used bins ages ago, for about $2 i think. and i really enjoyed it. a couple of days ago i started to think about it again, and surfed the web trying to see if there was any news of new stuff. to no avail. anyone know what she is up to now? obviously touring, but are we to expect a new recording any time soon? on a different note, i am have usually skipped the NOISEPOP festivities here in SF, but i seriously contemplated seeing 50 FOOT WAVE perform at CAFE DUNORD tonight. 50 FOOT WAVE is the new HARDER FASTER, more INTENSE band lead by KRISTIN HERSH along with BERNARD GEORGE and someone else on drums (not DAVID NARCIZO). anyone see them? can you report on what i missed out? now the question is whether i should go out tomorrow to see THE ALUMINUM GROUP at CAFE DUNORD. damn. i loved their earlier CD's but found myself growing less and less interested in their stuff. HAPPYNESS floated right past me (though i still put it on to try to recapture that originaly glow of discovery that i had when i first put on their album PLANO). does anyone have the follow up album MOREHAPPYNESS? does anyone on this list even listen to them? just wondering.... man. it has been YEARS since i last went to a show.... i think i have grown old.... irvin ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Feb 2004 00:27:10 -0800 From: Paul Schreiber Subject: House Concert: Terra Naomi, Sunnyvale 3/8 Short Attention Span Version - --------------------------------------------- I'm hosting a house concert. Terra Naomi is playing. You should come! Monday, March 8, 2004. 8 p.m. Sharp. Suggested donation: $10. RSVP. What's going on - --------------------------------------------- After an extended hiatus, I'm once again hosting house concerts. Next month's performance features New York-born, LA-based singer-songwriter Terra Naomi. When Terra isn't admonishing me for overusing hyphens, she's touring around the country playing bars, coffee houses and festivals. She plays piano- and guitar-based pop-folk (damn, there I go again!). About Terra - --------------------------------------------- Terra has played at the Aspen Music Festival, CMJ, the Midwest Music Summit, Bumbershoot and the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. She's been featured in Performing Songwriter, Dirty Linen, Independent Songwriter, Indie-music.com and Indiecrit.com. Rumour has it she can walk and chew gum at the same time. Terra's web site, with all the goodies, including MP3s: http://www.terranaomi.com/ Terra's blog: http://terranaomi.blogs.com/ Okay, I'm interested, what now? - --------------------------------------------- Email me to RSVP, and let me know how many people are coming with you. If the number changes, email me that, too. RSVPing is really important. Truly. FAQ - --------------------------------------------- Q: So what is a house concert, anyway? A: It's a great way to see music. You get to hear acoustic music in an intimate setting, free from drunken frat boys, weasels in suits, loud talkers and smoke. Q: I've listened to the MP3s, and I'm not sure. Should I still come? A: Yes, come! Music is best experienced live, and if you've never been to a house concert, now's a great time to start. Q: Can I blog about this concert? A: Sure. Please direct people to RSVP to terra@paulschreiber.com. Don't post this email address on the web for spambots. Q: Can I bring a friend? A: Yes, please do. RSVP them, too. Q: Can I bring a date? A: Sure. Q: Can I bring my Mom? A: Yessiree. Q: Who gets the money? A: Terra. Every cent. Q: Will she have CDs and merch for sale? A: You betcha. Q: But it's a school night... A: That's not a question. Q: You know what I mean! A: Don't worry, we'll be done between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Q: Should I bring anything? A: Drinks and snacks will be provided, but if you'd like to bring something to share, I'd be really grateful. Q: What time does this start again? A: 8 p.m. Sharp. Remember, it's a school night. Q: Where is your house? A: When you RSVP, you will get a confirmation with directions. Q: What if I have a question that's not answered here? A: Email me, I'll be happy to answer. One gripe, only > one: some of the places the >very< big submarine went didn't seem deep > enough for it. The most perfect non-animated "comicbook" movie I have > ever seen. That is very amusing. I actually watched this movie on the plane from London to SF about a month ago and basically I pretty much agreed with everything I read, in terms of it being a pretty terrible movie. I found it contrived, cliched, predictable, poorly written and badly acted. Granted, I never read the comic, though I am big ALAN MOORE fan. Tell me what you liked about it? Did you find the adaption of the comic to movie well done, would I have liked the movie more had I read the comic? It's a hard transition. Often times the subtly that makes a book/comic so great, is ruined in the transition. The HARRY POTTER movies is a prime example for me. As much as I enjoyed the books the movies adaption was so blatantly straight from the book that I really didn9t enjoy it. I fear what they will do to the DARK MATERIALS trilogy. But perhaps I will be surprised. Look at what they were able to do with the LORD OF THE RING (even without TOM BOMBADIL).... On the other hand, I quite enjoyed seeing the XMEN come to life on big screen (even if they fiddle with ROGUE and pretty much gave her SHADOWCAT's relationship with WOLVERINE, and they gave STORM some terrible lines - shame on you JOSS WHEDON). Perhaps it is because I haven't read an XMEN comic in ten to fifteen years, I was able to enjoy the movie. Definitely XMEN 2 was a significant improvement though. And though I familiar with LXG I found it lacking in pretty much every department. I was similarly disappointed with DAREDEVIL (though JENNIFER GARNER was great, I don't think an ELEKTRA movie is going to be all that better) and didn't even bother to see HULK. Even SPIDERMAN left something to be desired in my opinion. *sigh* I am not really looking forward to the upcoming WATCHMAN movie. I think they should just leave that comic alone - though some of the buzz about it states that they did a good job boiling the comic down into a movie format. We'll see if that's true or not. Anyway, same goes for the upcoming HELLBLAZER movie. KEANU REEVES in a big black trenchcoat again? No thanks. I might check out HELLBOY because I am less familiar with it though. And I'll probably ignore CATWOMAN. Along with the rest of the supposed DC COMIC movies (Superman, Batman, Hopefully the long awaited movie of THE SANDMAN will stay long awaited. I have no real faith that they could do that one justice either. That said, I do look forward to the transition of the LEMONY SNICKET books into movies. I can see that working fairly well.
