I heartily second this opinion - Capercaillie is my favorite of the 'celtic-progressive' bands, and I agree with Sean Connery's statement that Karen Matheson's throat has "surely been touched by God". It's hard for me to pick a favorite album by the group - - I have ten - but I have been listening a lot lately to their last one, Choice Language, as well as Beautiful Wasteland. If you're new to the band, you might want to try Choice Language or Beautiful Wasteland, which have a good mix of traditional Celtic with some world beats and nice ballads thrown in. The earlier albums such as Delirium and Sidewaulk are great too but more traditional with plenty of Gaelic lyrics. Karen has two solo albums, which are mostly soothing, gentle ballads; early mornin music with some light jazzy influences. Nice stuff but Capercaillie is better. While on the topic, another good artist is Connie Dover. She has put out four albums of Celtic and American folk, and she too has a wonderful clear voice. Phil Cunningham produced the albums and plays on many tracks and does the late Johnny Cunningham. Her latest, The Border of Heaven, is a study of Celtic influences on the American frontier - Sweet Betsy from Pike, The Streets of Laredo, Brother Green. Also, there was Harry's Theme from "Patriot Games" which was later used in a luxury car commercial. Beautiful stuff. Clannad is salt of the earth and what music is all about, in my opinion. Enya never turned me on like that. In fact I used to go for electrolysis and the technician would always play Enya's first cd or Dr. Laura Schlessinger on the radio during the appointments, so I associate Enya and getting pushy advice with sub-dermal electric shock. Not a fan.
