When Ani says "you", she didn't mean YOU, you know :) I was just sort of musing on the fact that artists who do sign up into the system effectively endorse it, and not only would it be hypocritical for them to complain, but I'm no longer sure they even deserve our support if they are not prepared to *do* something about it from their end. I'm becoming increasingly radical on this issue. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Feb 2004 16:25:16 -0500 From: fingerpuppets Subject: Susan McKeown in NY, NJ this weekend - ----- Forwarded message from Sheila-Na-Gig Music ----- Date: Tue, 17 Feb 2004 16:13:39 -0500 To: chanting@earthlink.net From: Sheila-Na-Gig Music Subject: Susan McKeown in NY, NJ this weekend X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-4.3 required=2.0 tests=AWL,BAYES_00,HTML_MESSAGE autolearn=no version=2.60 We're back from a great tour in New Mexico with the band Flook (you can see photos at http://www.flook.co.uk/html/fromroad.html). The Velvet Janes have potent lyrics and catchy sounds. Some of the Janes' lyrics are on the edgy side; others are sweet, such as Zac's Song, which is about Rose Farrow's (the other half of The Velvet Janes) son, Zac: "Do you know I have a boy he's only nine years old/Big enough for insecurities but small enough to hold/And I love to hear him talk of the dreams he holds so dear/And I tell him you can do/Anything that you want to..." Some of Martine Locke's solo songs have a rougher, rock and roll, sound; a noticeable contrast to the lush harmonies she produces in The Velvet Janes. The Velvet Janes are a treat to listen to. I'd love to see them perform live some time. Unfortunately for me the next time The Velvet Janes are playing together is toward the end of the month in Western Australia -- way to far to take my family, even to hear one of the best folk-pop bands around. (Were I to propose such an idea --flying 35 hours to go to a concert-- I probably won't have my family anymore .) - --Bill Adler n.p.
