A rare quick trip with no concerts :( But what I did do was get the local paper, which had an article on Anne Watts and Boister, who were about to unveil a pair of new silent film scores. I'd seen them live playing an original score to Buster Keaton's "Steamboat Bill Jr", and their quirky modern cabaret sound totally won my hear. I hadn't thought about them in ages, and I discovered they had an album that's a couple years old that I hadn't heard of. In case the word cabaret is a turn off, think Amy Denio fronting a squonking ensemble with prominant bass clarinet and trombone. Quirky art song could be another name. I'm grooving to samples of it right now and it's inspiring me to make a CDBaby order. Any suggestions of things I should get to flesh out my order? (You can check out Boister at http://www.boister.net/. There site is zany fun. Be sure to look at info on the band, where you get whacky blasts of music and can watch them play with a sock monkey :) ) neal now watching: Good Scrap Metal - Anne Watts & Boister at the Baltimore Museum of Art ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jan 2004 13:40:17 -0500 (EST) From: stumck@webtv.net (Stuart Mckenney) Subject: SALE: CDs, Records, Flexis, Indiepop Cassettes Hi list -- I'm selling over 200 pieces of music on Ebay -- a partial list of artists includes: Adventures In Stereo, Aerospace, Aislers Set, Steve Almaas, Always, Bear Quartet, Bitter Springs, Blab Happy, Buddha On The Moon, Care, Chapterhouse, Cherry Orchard, Cherry Twister, Cinnamon, Claim, Allen Clapp, Coldplay, Comet Gain, DCFC, Sandy Denny, Eggstone, Ember Days, Fairways, Friends, Goldstoned, Holidaymakers, The Idea, Impossibles (UK), Innocence Mission, Ivy, Jacobites, Jam, Jordans, Killjoys, Kitchens Of Distinction, Lilac Time, Love Parade, Alex Lloyd, Magnetic Fields, Mahogany, Medicine, Melons, Mendoza Line, Moffs, My Favorite, My Life Story, One Thousand Violins, Orchids, Pastel Collision, Bill Pritchard, Reegs, Relict, Sandkings, Secret Stars, Shop Assistants, Elliott Smith, Snow Patrol, Spearmint, Sparklehorse, Splitsville, Strawberry Story, Sweet Jesus, Sweetest Ache, Swervedriver, Tattle Tale, Tiger Trap, Tompaulin, Triffids, Underground Lovers, Wedding Present, Wild Swans, Wishing Stones, and many more. There are quite a few "Various Artists" CD compilations available as well, on labels such as 555, Cherry Red, El, Flying Nun, Jeepster, Sarah, Shinkansen, Sound Asleep, Vinyl Japan......and some rare C86-era cassettes. An experienced ebay "power seller" is handling this for me -- try clicking the first link below in order to view her auctions, which are spread over multiple pages -- CDs are listed first, followed by tapes and vinyl, with children's toys and videos mixed in throughout -- please browse carefully all the way to the end to ensure that you catch all of the music listings. If the initial link fails, there's a shorter one directly under it which leads to her "About Me" page -- just scroll down that page to the area where all of her auctions are listed in a more bare-bones graphics-free format. From that postion, you can reach the more full-featured display by clicking any one of her auction ID numbers and then selecting the blue link found inside which reads "view seller's other items." A third method (if both links below are "broken") involves conducting a "search by seller" at Ebay for this user ID: myhobbyshop http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=myhobbyshop&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50 http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/myhobbyshop/ thanks and take care, - ----stuart ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jan 2004 10:47:09 -0800 From: jmgurley@drizzle.com Subject: Happy's Announcement For those who aren't up to date on Happy's news, I learned from Tamar an interesting bit of news from auntiesocialmusic.com, in the MANY WORLDS section. Congratulations Happy! Indeed!!! Also of interest is the fact that Happy is currently auctioning a few of her paintings on eBay. At some of them should look very familiar to ectophiles. At the risk of incurring Vickie's ire by pointing them out (I see she's currently the high bidder on at least one of them :), I'd hate for anyone to miss out!! There is a direct link to the auctions in the aforementioned "Many Worlds" section at auntiesocialmusic.com. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jan 2004 15:48:09 -0700 From: Neal Copperman Subject: Re: Happy's Announcement At 10:47 AM -0800 1/31/04, jmgurley@drizzle.com wrote: >For those who aren't up to date on Happy's news, I learned from Tamar >an interesting bit of news from auntiesocialmusic.com, in the MANY >WORLDS section. Congratulations Happy! Yes indeed. Congrats Happy - and Bob. And good luck in your move out of NY. Hopefully you will end up somewhere new and exciting that will really resonate with you. I'm trying to decide if Happy is selling paintings merely to clean out the closet or also because she actually is trying to raise money. It strikes me that many of us out here would be really pleased to have a Happy Rhodes t-shirt. Any hopes of Happy (or someone on the list) making something cool to sell? Just a thought that flashed across my mind. neal now editing: AMP House concert with Acoustic Eidolon ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #31 **************************
