Sat down, yesterday, and listened to Tanya Donnelly's beautysleep and --- well, well, well, Moonbeam Monkey!! And there I was feeling left out. About the only "date" one I came up with is Neutral Milk Hotels - Avery Island/April 1st. As for the "murder" ones, apart from he obvious Tom Waits' Murder in the Red Barn, there's the Auteur's album After Murder Park, with it's disturbing song, Unsolved Child Murders. But that's about it. I'll probably come up with others in a month or two. adam k. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jan 2004 03:37:53 -0800 (PST) From: anna maria "stjärnell" Subject: louise's blues hi.. swedish singer louise hoffsten relases her album blues in the states this spring..great news as it was prevouisly deleted. it's out here now. louise recently had a baby. oh yes..we don't get angel here at least not yet. sigh. anna maria __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Great stuff. It's truly a crime that she hasn't put out a new album since _The Divine Comedy_, which was truly one of the great discs of the '90s and remains one of my all-time faves. Her web site gives some hope, though ... but she could just be "working on" new stuff in the same vein as Kate Bush has been "working on" new stuff for a decade now. I hope not. (IMDB reveals that she has a costume design credit in the movie _Mona Lisa Smile_, which also features a Tori cameo -- is this true?! Does anyone know why??) =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jan 2004 19:26:43 -0800 From: Alan Subject: Re: yet another monkey On Fri, 2004-01-23 at 19:01, meredith wrote: > woj just downloaded a DVD of a concert Milla did in Austin in 1994. Actually she did. It was called "The People Tree Sessions" and was one of the true criminal acts of the last century. I thought that was just > something people got online, and she has since completely disavowed it > ... or am I hallucinating again? the story i've read (e.g. Trouser Press) is that she actually took legal action to prevent the release from People Tree -- an organization with a somewhat dodgy reputation. however, the album was released in 2002 by Cherry Red, and is available from Amazon. Trouser Press says "Whether this version meets with Jovovich's approval any more than the original has not been made public." and goes on to say "Taken on its own merits, The Peopletree Sessions is not bad at all. Jovovich's rough ideas and toss-offs are still of higher quality than many artists' finished work; informality contributes to its lo-fi, trip-hoppish appeal." but, based on recent comments, i find myself dubious. someday i've got to track down the Wim Wenders film "Million Dollar Hotel" -- apparently Milla covers "Satellite of Love", as well as co-stars. the film also has a somewhat dodgy rep, to say the least... but i've got a high Wim Wenders tolerance (which his films sometimes, alas, require -- great soundtracks, though!). to stay one topic: according to AMG there is no song called "Monkey Pants". someone's got to do something about this serious oversight! - -g - -- "i've never been afraid to change the circumstances of the world" - -- Happy Rhodes - -- "except for monkies..." - -- Anya ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #23 **************************
