I saw this on a newsgroup. What a tragedy. Not only for the musician's friends and family, but it also puts a sad taint onto Real World Studios. I don't know anything about ananova, and couldn't find anything about this anywhere else. Does anyone have any other links? ++++++++ http://www.ananova.com/entertainment/story/sm_855957.html Musician found dead at Peter Gabriel's studio A guitarist with an up-and-coming band has been found hanging at recording studios owned by Peter Gabriel. James Lawrence, 26, a member of Chichester indie group Hope of the States was found at the Real World Studios in Box, near Bath, earlier. A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "I can confirm that we were called to the Real World studios in Box shortly after 4am today where the body of James Lawrence was found by other members of the band hanging from the rafters. "He was taken down and efforts made to revive him but to no avail." Police said he was declared dead at the scene and said they were not treating the incident as suspicious. The band was set to release their highly anticipated debut album in the late spring. "im love" is hilarious and worth thr price of admission. 16 barenaked ladies/everything to everyone more wacky alt-pop from our favourite canadians. i'd be more enthusiastic about this if i'd picked a favourite song. maybe a few more spins. 17 shaye/the bridge tara, kim, damhnait's voice are showcased on a dozen pop ballads. they'd be at home on the radio with seven songs under four minutes. not that that's a bad thing. 18 howie day/stop all the world now even if you didn't like australia (i didn't), check this one out. it's good pop-rock. he borrows a page from danny michel with the loop delays (well, live, anyway). 19 brenda weiler/cold weather brenda weiler brings more straight-up acoustic folk to ya with cold weather. it's soft and gentle. i'd love to see her sneak in a rocker. maybe next album. 20 steve tannen/stopped at a green light memorable acoustic folk-pop with strong melodies. really good live. other stuff i bought - -------------------------- deb talan/a bird flies out the weepies' other half ... soft and wonderful tristan prettyman/love only room for one trizzy record, this one's good, too jewel/0304 can we get a live acoustic album, please? michelle branch/hotel paper left me a bit unfulfilled jerry hannan/sounds like a story a bit too country for me chris o'connor/the unbreakable behind you i don't remember kristilyn robertson/the uncut version sounds like lindi rachael sage/public record piano pop from 2003 that i didn't hear - -------------------------- holly palmer/i confess neat stuff from previous years - -------------------------- wes cunningham/pollyanna (2001) "i fall for her / over and over" gregory page/love made me drunk yay san diego raining jane/raining jane (2001) *so* good live andy gaunt/thumbnails (2002) clever / witty / sarcastic aussie carla holden/wake up and love me (2002) dissonant electronic piano pop sylvie lewis/beautiful mess (2001) lovely vocal terra naomi/terra naomi (2001) yay for girls with geetars hem/i'm talking with my mouth (2002) lush, full, so good aj croce/transit aj croce/fit to serve genius piano man jag star/crazy place catchy pop-rock paul shad 96c / uw cs 2001 / mac activist / fumbler / eda / headliner / navy-souper fan of / sophie b. / steve poltz / habs / bills / 49ers / "Diplomacy is the art of letting someone else have your way." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Jan 2004 00:10:22 +1000 From: "heidi maier" Subject: ot: film: rabbit proof fence. i recall somebody in north america listing this film as one of their favourites of 2003 and, thus, thought that this (very sad) piece of news might be of interest: http://www.thecouriermail.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5936,8407883%255E7642,00.html heidi. ------------------------------ Date: 16 Jan 2004 09:53:39 -0500 From: Dan Riley Subject: Re: Terrible P Gabriel-related news, can anyone confirm? (I think I recall seeing one other copy that I may be able to hunt down if anyone is dying to get their hands on it...) Kristy Thirsk - Souvenir - this was waiting in my mailbox upon getting home - I have only been waiting six (eight?) years at least since Rose Chronicles disbanded for Kristy to put out a solo album! I may go put it quietly on the stereo and go pass out now!!! BTW, I saw charming hostess play in london last week - a very interesting and powerful show - I think Jewlia Eisenberg/Charming Hostess was mentioned on the list before - thanks to whomever mentioned her/them :) n.p. I'm a little unclear as to what actually happened to "No Fear". AFAIK, it was supposed to come out in July 2003, and either that never happened or else the release window was so small that I missed it. Abra's with a different label now but apparently the masters for "No Fear" were returned to her, so maybe we'll see it again one day. I wish I had a copy. Still, a new album in March - that's good news... ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V10 #16 **************************
