One of my fav albums of the year. With others, I quickly narrowed it down to my favourite songs and skipped the rest. You can make it through this album without feeling overly disturbed. There aren't any of the more intimate and affecting explorations of pathetic-ness that Suzie Ungerleider excels in. Instead, 'The One' is purdy and uplifting. 'The Fall' doesnt celebrate the degradation of love as it could on her other albums; instead, "I had fallen so deep that my tongue had tasted the stars." 'Zoe' has a birthday tantrum in her delicate song, and no-one dies. 'I'll keep it with mine' bubbles with more emotions than the touching surface requires, and nods a head to the songwriter Dylan with a harmonica. When Oh Susanna uses the form of traditional murder ballads, they are safe in their gestures and historicism (like this album's 'Down by the quarry'). Ok, she sings "I'll cut off your limbs and bury your body at sea", but that's returning to right the remains of a failed dreamer. I've no idea what my top albums of the year were. My sense of time is wonky, and I've been mislaying cds like hell. Humph. Karen __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! It's always nice to hear about new artists. I'm gonna check her out (I'm listening to some songs from her website right now). Also great to hear that Abra's got a new CD out soon. - -----Urspr|ngliche Nachricht----- Von: owner-ecto@smoe.org [mailto:owner-ecto@smoe.org]Im Auftrag von Sherlyn Koo Gesendet: Montag, 12. Also, Abra Moore has a new album (I think called "Everything Changed") due out in March - yay. Apparently the last album never got released due to label issues. And did I imagine that Lisa Loeb has a new DVD coming out? - -sherlyn - -- Sherlyn Koo - sherlyn@pixelopolis.com - Sydney, Australia ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jan 2004 10:17:50 -0500 (EST) From: "Steve" Subject: RE:Hello all 23:46:48 -0500

The reason I ask is because I've seen some press on him lately (a show in NYC, an appearance on Morning Becomes Eclectic) and I'm wondering if it's this guy I went to Oberlin with who used to play regularly at the Cat in the Cream Coffeehouse. I never saw him play, so I can't say anything about his music, nor could I say "I knew him when" but I would get a kick out of knowing it was the same guy. Today Mr. Postman brought me the wonderful newer CD by the Peter Malick Group - Chance & Circumstance. This disc features vocal frontings from featured artist Norah Jones, Jess Klein, Kirsten Proffit, Antje Duvekot, and Malick's daughter Mercy Malick. This CD is a nice mixture of folk, blues, with a touch of jazz. The overall sound gives you that "plop down in your easy chair, with a glass of wine" feeling. The vocals are solid throughout the CD, headed by six songs fronted by Norah Jones, with each other artist taking two songs. I am preticularly impressed with Jess Klein's fronted songs "Immigrant" and "Midsize City Girl." But I am probably biased as I am a big fan of hers. Overall, I would recommend this CD, and highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of any of the artist that contibuted to the CD. Amazon says "Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) organizes a yearly pilgrimage of rock's greatest to Joshua Tree CA to make music for music's sake." That doesn't interest me in the slightest, but PJ Harvey is singing on some of them. She's been silent for a while. I miss her. On that note, I want to hear some Carina Round, but her sucky website is now a differently designed sucky website, again with no sounds. Karen __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
