Glad to know the crappy radio stations in this state don't control the minds of everyone :-) Ok, I was looking through the ectoguide.org site, and I am guessing/hoping that not every artist talked about in here is on there? The reason I say that is, I do not see Voices on the Verge!!!! If someone has already talked about them before, just ignor me. :-) This is band has been one of the most interesting I have seen in the past couple of years. The band consists of four female solo artist, who might be familiar: Jess Klein, Erin McKeown, Rose Polenzani and Beth Amsel. From what I understand the band formed when the four ladies where on the "Vans, Voices on the Verge" tour of up and coming artist, and they started performing each others solo works together as a group. They then released a CD under the same name, featuring songs from each artist's solo works. I was a fan already of Jess Klein and Erin McKeown before I discovered VOTV. But since then I have fallen in love with Rose P. and Beth A. And the sum of them is WONDERFUL. I highly recommend their CD. It goes everywhere from pop to country, with lots of acoustic and alt-folk in the middle. Also, I HIGHLY recommend all four ladies solo releases as well! Anyway, I just had to say something about VOTV, on the off chance you all had not heard of them! :-) Wade A. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Saturday, January 10, 2004 5:49 PM Subject: Welcome Wade > Another MidWestie delurking to chime in. No, not by a long shot. The Ectoguide is an all-volunteer operation, so things get added as the contributors and editors have the time. If no one is working on a page already, feel free to go for it! >The reason I say that is, I do not see Voices on the Verge!!!! >If someone has already talked about them before, just ignor me. :-) > >This is band has been one of the most interesting I have seen in the past >couple of years. Well, I wouldn't go so far as to call them a "band". VOTV was a one-time collaboration between singer/songwriters who had a really good time at a round-robin show they all happened to be on and decided to take it on the road for a little while. The recording was done mainly to shut the fans up :). Due to base stupidity and lameness I never saw one of their shows, but I do enjoy the CD a fair bit. I'm not a fan of either Jess Klein or Rose Polenzani, but the presence of Erin McKeown and Beth Amsel makes their songs more than palatable. (While I'm here, I just want to state for the record that I find the concept of Erin McKeown opening for Josh Ritter across the pond next month exceedingly disappointing. I've seen Josh Ritter a couple times, and believe me, he should *definitely* be the one opening for her.) =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Jan 2004 10:25:10 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Re: some sort of terrible synthpop virus Hi, Yngve wondered: >And then what is it? :) I'm gonna do my first show this year in a >few hours and she is on the playlist ... Hi Wade, welcome to Ecto! There are a handful of Ectophiles in the Chicago area, me included. I also used to live in Kansas City, so I can answer twice. :) Btw, if you are interested in hearing what this list's muse (Happy Rhodes) sounds like, I keep a sampler page at: http://vickie.teemingmillions.com/happy/samples/index.html Have fun! I'm a little unclear as to what actually happened to "No Fear". AFAIK, it was supposed to come out in July 2003, and either that never happened or else the release window was so small that I missed it. Abra's with a different label now but apparently the masters for "No Fear" were returned to her, so maybe we'll see it again one day. I wish I had a copy. Still, a new album in March - that's good news...
