Gorgeous vocals over dark-inflected dreampop with a bite. Heather Duby: "Come Across the River." Imagine Beth Orton with more of a 4AD aesthetic. Pretty, intricate arrangements, bracingly personal lyrics. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo! She will have her NYC debut December 30th at 10 P.M. at The Bowery Poetry Club. The Bowery Poetry Club is located at 308 Bowery @ Bleecker, right across from CBGB's (F train to Second Ave | 6 train to Bleecker | 212-614-0505) www.bowerypoetry.com She was born in St. Petersburg Russia in 1982. After studying violin and piano for three years at St. Petersburg State Music School she started composing her own poetry and songs while teaching herself guitar. She completed High School in the Unites States and is now a sophomore at Baruch College studying communications. She grew up listening to underground "bard" folk singers such as Bulat Okudzhava, Veronika Dolina & Yuri Vizbor, so expect post-traditional Russian "bard" prose informed by a more current acid-folk approach. With her singular & unique voice, Julia will be performing melancholic songs of friendship & love in Russian this evening. We do hope you can attend. I saw them once here in Philadelphia, and while I love their album, their live performance was lackluster to say the least. Entirely too much prerecorded material, and the tech elements drowned out the vocalist, the cello, and all the rest of the acoustic instruments. That was about a year ago though, so hopeful they've worked out the kinks.
