Amen. Well, I think the parents may be looking for a different kind of complexity than is going on within hip-hop beats. Though they do tend to stick to a 4/4 meter and steady tempo, there's a lot going on within those strictures, often in the voices' interactions with the beats. And I find that I can sort out what's being said in rap better than in much other music, since (other than rhythmically) the delivery is closer to speech. Problems can arise, though, in dealing with dialects or sorting out the voices from the often harsh other timbres, as well as in not quite believing that they actually said what you thought you heard (which came up a lot with, for an example in another genre, Nirvana). At least these are true in the better stuff -- but then, Sturgeon's Law, that 90% of anything is crap, applies across genres. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Dec 2003 03:00:03 -0500 (EST) From: Mike Matthews Subject: Today's your birthday, friends... i*i*i*i*i*i i*i*i*i*i*i *************** *****HAPPY********* **************BIRTHDAY********* *************************************************** *************************************************************************** ********************** Uli Grepel (no Email address) ********************** ******************** Joseph Wasicek (no Email address) ******************** *************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Uli Grepel Wed December 25 1968 Steinbock Joseph Wasicek Sat December 25 1976 Brown Eagle Stuart Castergine Mon December 30 1963 You Are Here Marvin Camras Sat January 01 1916 Tapehead Jeanne Schreiter Tue January 03 1967 Capricorn John Sandoval Wed January 04 1967 Capricorn Paul Cohen Tue January 05 1954 Capricorn Tony Garrity Mon January 08 1962 Pool of Life Greg Bossert Tue January 09 1962 OfTheTimes Troy J.
