A lot of my listening has been to MP3s, meaning that I've been listening to individual tracks rather than albums, and I don't listen to music at home much, since I'm bombarded with music all the time at work. This also means that much of what I'm exposed to is at the more commercial end of the spectrum. And I've been doing a lot of listening to albums that were released earlier, reissues, and compilations. But here's a rough Top 10, in alphabetical order: David Bowie: Reality Annie Lennox: Bare Pat Metheny: One Quiet Night Rachel's: Systems/Layers Damian Rice: O David Sylvian: Blemish Various Artists: Masked & Anonymous (soundtrack) Various Artists: Holes (soundtrack) Rufus Wainwright: Want One Weird Al Yankovic: Poodle Hat ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Dec 2003 20:33:27 -0800 From: Neile Graham Subject: My 2003 list, I think I hope I will be able to do my long list with comments, but here's what I think is my top this year so far. Too many contenders for the 10th spot to list. So her's my top 9 in alpha order. Cat Power, _You Are Free_ Daughter Darling, _Sweet Shadows_ Fiery Furnaces, _Gallowsbird's Bark_ lamb, _Between Darkness and Wonde_r Jim Moray, _Sweet England_ Petracovich, _blue cotton skin_ Kat Terran, _Lion & Blue_ Under Byen, _Det Er Mig Der Holder Trferne Sammen_ Noe Venable, _the world is bound by secret knots_ The Noe Venable is definitely the most played, but Daughter Darling, Under Byen, Lamb, and Fiery Furnaces are contenders to that particular crown. - --Neile ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Dec 2003 22:32:47 -0800 From: "Jack Sutton" Subject: tops for 2003 Hello This year turned sour for me when some time in March I saw our massive bombs destroying Iraq, fed by lies and greed, killing innocent people on both sides. So music has not had the attention I would normally give it. I only mention this because while compiling my sparse top ten list for 2003, one song stands out in my mind amid the sad behavior of the United States since 9-11. That song is by Laura Love, titled "I Want You Gone" dedicated to George Bush. Laura was the first artist I heard speak out against the US policy and it just resonated with me. I could not have expressed my feeling any more clearly. I want to thank Laura Love for speaking out against the insanity of a nation gone asleep. Sorry about the negative preface to my best of 2003 list, but some music has helped me cope with these unpleasant times. Here is my list: Laura Love."Welcome To Pagan Place" Reeltime Travelers. Livin' Reeltime Thinking Old-Time ( an old time band that fills the void left by the breakup of the "Frieght Hoppers" Stairwell Sisters. "The Stairwell Sisters" Gillian Welch ..Time (The Revelator) actually 2002. I recommend the CD and DVD Be Good Tanyas..Chinatown Kari Bremnes.. "You'D Have To Be Here" Norwegian artist, second English sung album. Noa (Achinoam Nini)."Oxygen" she rocks out on this Louise Taylor. "Velvet Town" Edie Carey "When I Was Made" Lasairfhiona Ni Chonaola "An Raicin Alainn" probably a 2002 release, the voice of an angel.for sure Peggy White.." Fair Is Fair".more coming soon Kind regards, Jack Sutton Harmony Ridge Music www.hrmusic.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Dec 2003 01:31:47 EST From: FAMarcus@aol.com Subject: Re: tops for 2003 and war games In a message dated 12/11/03 1:20:20 AM Eastern Standard Time, jsutton@hrmusic.com writes: This year turned sour for me when some time in March I saw our massive bombs destroying Iraq, fed by lies and greed, killing innocent people on both sides.
