Sort of the same thing happened to me. I really liked Japan and I loved things Mick Karn did afterward (masterful fretless bass, that) and bought Rain Tree Crow because of David Sylvian's exquisite voice. On first playing I was turned off and didn't listen to it again for several months. Then one day I arrived home at about sunrise after working a night shift, and on a whim I popped RTC in the player. To my amazement, as light filled my space accompanied by this subtly crafted music I was in transports of rapture. To think I had already stuck that disc in the stack for sell/trade. Rain Tree Crow endures as one of my all time favorite cds. Here's to a more gracious flexibility in expectations toward artists we love. It's sort of like a combination lock, isn't it? Sometimes things click and the tumblers line up, and other times we overspin the dial. rita _________________________________________________________________ Take advantage of our best MSN Dial-up offer of the year six months @$9.95/month. Now I know how Adam K feels addressing the prog rock fans on the list. I, too, like jazz. Though my tastes aren't particularly sophisticated. I have been od-ing on Thelonious Monk the last couple of weeks. I ran into one of those $9.99 sales at Borders Books and picked up _Underground_ and two Monk compilations. Also, got a Bill Evans compilation. Two of my favorite jazz albums of the last two years are Earl Harvin Trio _Unincorporated_ and EST _Somewhere Else Before_. Karrin Allyson has been in heavy rotation in my house also. On an unrelated note: I have fallen in love with the Flaming Lips. I have been playing _Soft Bulletin_ and _Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots_ to the point of lunatic obsession. The music should be cheesy, but it isn't. I don't know how they do it. I thought they were an amazing trio. How's the album?
