Hey folks, I seem to recall that there are a few Kris Delmhorst fans on this list, so here you go. Peter Mulvey and Jeffrey Foucault are fantastic too - two of my three favourite guy folksingers in fact, Ellis Paul being the other... Hello. I was thrilled to happen upon Ecto and join the list--Happy's music is profound and inspiring to me, and I am enjoying the digests. I'm not sure if this is the proper address to post an email to for the list, but I have a question. The ecto archive is so voluminous that I don't know when I'll have time to read it all, so I'm sorry to ask someone to go over old ground, but what happened to Happy's hand? Also, does she ever come to the Texas area? Rita _________________________________________________________________ Gift-shop online from the comfort of home at MSN Shopping! In June of 2001 Happy was in Santa Cruz, CA to headline EctoFestWest, a concert put together by ectophiles. It was her first performance on the West Coast, and ectofolk came from literally all over the country to be there for it. The morning of the concert, Happy was trying to cut a cable tie off of something in her hotel room with a pocketknife, and she ended up cutting into the ring finger on her left hand. There was serious nerve and tendon damage. Thanks to a massive dose of Vicodin and the brilliance of the musicians in her band (who were able to rearrange some of her songs literally with a couple hours' notice so she wouldn't have to play the guitar), the show went on. Several weeks later she underwent surgery in New York City to repair her finger as much as possible. Then followed many months of recuperation, and teaching herself how to play the guitar again with a finger that to this day remains totally numb. It was almost two full years before she performed in public again, and she just recently completed her first real tour ever. >Also, does she ever come to the Texas area? She hasn't, but that doesn't mean you couldn't make it happen! If you have a living room big enough to host a concert, and a couple dozen friends willing to experience some wonderful music in an intimate setting, she might come out your way. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Nov 2003 14:27:48 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Re: Products, products--time for a deep sweep? and other stories Hi, Catching up on the last couple months' of ecto posts that didn't have "Happy" in the subject line ... No matter that it could arguably turn the quaffer green >around the gills :-). Not only the quaffer would turn green. When I was in college, one of my friends added blue curacao to a fuzzy navel. The resultant concoction was promptly named "Toxic Waste". It was the most frightening neon-green color I've ever seen. Didn't taste too bad, though! :) (IIRC, later on that same night/early the next morning -- depending on your point of view -- all we had left was Southern Comfort and diet A&W root beer. That, my friends, is how you make Robitussin.) =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Nov 2003 16:17:08 -0500 From: Ofer Inbar Subject: Rachael Sage, Molly Zenobia, Cambridge MA, this Monday This is an event I put together, with two of my favorite musicians, to promote Howard Dean's presidential campaign. This Monday evening at Club Passim in Harvard Square, Cambridge MA, starting at 7pm. We'll have a brief opening set by Jenny Bruce from New York, then full sets by Rachael Sage and Molly Zenobia. We'll show some short Dean videos in between sets, and have information available. Tickets are only $5, and we're asking for a contribution (optional) of $10 or more to Dean's campaign. If you can't come, can you think of someone else who might want to? Tell them about it. I posted about it on my music livejournal, cosmusic, here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/cosmusic/17123.html People here are probably already familiar with Rachael and Molly, but in case you're not, they both have ectoguide entries. I am probably one of your closest ecto neighbors, writing to you from Albuquerque NM. I don't think we've had a Texas ectophile for a looong time. The time hasn't been better for the possibility of Happy playing in Texas. She's probably played more shows in 2003 then any other year, and showed a willingness to travel and play small venues that hadn't previousl been the case. They were trying to set up a house concert/small venue tour of the whole country, but I think they couldn't string enough dates together to get past Chicago. We were pushing really hard for a New Mexico show, and had even offered to chip in for airfare. Maybe having a Texas ectophile willing to host a show will make the Southwest a bit more attractive? If that is appealing to you, the contact point for the tour was Ken: Kosterhaudt@aol.com Cheers, neal now editing: D Squared House Concert ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V9 #330 **************************
