I'm glad there is a way around it, though I didn't even notice it. I plopped it into my computer and launched CDex and it worked without a hitch (of course it was not in the CDDB so I had to type everything in, but other than that...) Now have not tried to just copy the CD onto another one (and won't), but getting the files in MP3 form on my computer was no problem at all. I have yet to find a CD I can't do this with. Radiohead worked just fine too. **Now I just need to state my disclaimer...I am not doing this for any evil reasons, I simply put ALL my CDs onto my hard drive which is hooked up to my computer and I play them that way, using my computer as a jukebox (plus then I can keep the actual CD in my car...yes, never in the summer, I know).** ~Amy -------Original Message------- > From: John Zimmer <tiefe@dsl-only.net> > Subject: Sarah CD corrupted/protected > Sent: 07 Nov 2003 03:45:11 > > I haven't seen any mention of this as yet, so I don't know if this is news > or not. Enjoyed meeting self-identified Ecto lurker, Bob Keefer. For protection and companionship, I brought along Paul, a friend of mine. Yes, it was a short set, but Happy said it took them about 3.5 hours to drive from New Jersey, and I think they were all "beat." They had arrived only a few minutes before we did, which was in the 5:45-6:00 range. I had two cameras but misplaced the battery I had specifically recharged for my digital cam (I thought I had left it at home but it turns out I had simply put it in another bag in my car ~ nerts!). I will post my other analog cam pics as soon as possible and am expecting pics back soon from the Tin Angel shows. Happy's set list, as Bob summarized, was much as her recent shows, except curtailed. Still, "Ra" was excellent, and I have to fully disagree with the previous opinion about Hansford's songs. I've enjoyed them three times now, and I think Happy greatly enjoys their inclusion in the set. Isn't that good enough reason for us to welcome them? It's too bad that the Mechanicsburg "Second Floor Gallery" is so geographically removed from almost all Happy fans, I presume. It was an easy drive for Paul and I, but I guess 3-3.5 hours from Philly. I asked Happy about using this place for a cd-release party, but Happy said she's not much one for cd-release parties. She just likes "to get the thing out for sale" and be done with it. I forgot to ask Happy about her specific wishes about distributing recordings, but I've sent a message to her today to get an answer. If you're ever in the Harrisburg area, I highly recommend you check out the Second Floor Gallery in Mechanicsburg. Also, we ate at the Gingerbread Man restaurant, which is a small chain, but originated at the location in Mechanicsburg back in 1973. Not world-class food but certainly edible, with a fine selection of amber beverages and a big bar area that attracted plenty of locals. [This was just down the street and around the corner from the gallery, catty-corner to the "Just Clogs" footwear store (I swear)]. ~Mark C. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Nov 2003 13:39:02 -0500 From: Jeff Wasilko Subject: Re: Sarah CD corrupted/protected On Thu, Nov 06, 2003 at 07:45:11PM -0800, John Zimmer wrote: > I haven't seen any mention of this as yet, so I don't know if this is news > or not. Thanks for mentioning this. I was having problems ripping the CD using EAC (it was projecting 5 hours to rip it). Meth mentioned that this had been discussed here, and indeed holding down the shift key while loading the CD keeps Sunncomm's software from loading and EAC was able to extract the wav files in just a couple of minutes. I'd be returning the CD if this workaround didn't exist.... - -j ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 07 Nov 2003 14:30:14 -0500 From: Mark Chapman Subject: HR/Tin Angel 11-1-03 Photos OK so no one ever accused me of being a really good photographer... http://langley.lifepics.com/a/v.cfm?h=C1B723B1 ~Mark C. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Nov 2003 15:04:51 -0500 From: Dan_Stark <2003.carnivore99@verizon.net> Subject: Re: Re: Sarah CD corrupted/protected A story on the business wires last week reported that SunnComm has inked a deal with A to Z Music Services to put their MediaMax copy-protection scheme onto CDs produced by that company. Unfortunately, A to Z does CD replication for a number of independent labels and artists, including the likes of Rachel Sage and Cibo Matto. I would urge any musicians who frequent this forum to avoid dealing with A to Z, and find another replicator who won't burden you with the kind of negative publicity that is sure to result from this. As for MediaMax "protected" CDs, well, you won't even need to hold down the shift key if you have the CD AutoPlay or Autostart function disabled on your computer in the first place. She's an absolute riot in live performance, and she's no slouch as a singer or songwriter, either. (She has also written the most affecting song about 9-11 I've heard yet, which is on her new CD: "Under A Sky".)
