I thought, "Jewel, Jewel, Jewel, you clever little..." Essentially, she's mocking slick-ass current MTV pop and cashing in on it at the same time. The recording itself is light years more processed than PIECES OF YOU. The vocal track alone has been treated to make it perfectly in sync with the track's pitch and all that. But the satire behind it is pretty darn witty, and the video is perhaps the first thing I've seen on MTV that makes a statement in a long time. But honestly, nothing about "Intuition" really touches me. Even for a dance song it doesn't seem that great. There's nothing dreamy or moody about it, which always attracts me to more electronic songs. And it's certainly not nearly as absorbing as something like "Save Your Soul" or "Pieces of You," both of which find Jewel, in my view, at her most uneasy, her most intense, and her most expressive. Remember that first video in the bathroom? She looked like somebody that was really feeling something. She belonged there with those crazy people. That rocked. n.p. Witches/Blind/Cyo/Wendy Rule/Druids Hi, Cy announced: >SAT. NOV. 8th CONCERT WITH WENDY RULE, SF KADATH PREMIERE, CYOAKHA, DRUIDS >DANCE FOR THE DEAD I really, really wish I could get out to the left coast for this one. woj and I just hosted Wendy Rule for the third time in our living room this afternoon, and it was wonderful, as always. We had a sellout (not as packed full as for Happy, but close), thanks in large part to a coven who came down from Massachusetts in two stretch limos for the occasion. :) Despite suffering from a bit of a cold, Wendy was in fine voice. She did two good-sized sets covering all of her albums, and a good time was had by all. I'm really enjoying her new CD _The Lotus Eaters_ a lot -- it's very powerful. Unfortunately due to a screwup at her record label, she didn't have any copies with her to sell today. :/ She hopes to have them by the time she heads West, though. It's well worth picking up, if you haven't already. And if you're in an area where Wendy is playing the next few weeks, don't miss her. She's -- dare I say it -- magical. :) =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Oct 2003 00:11:45 -0500 From: aural gratification Subject: Just had to share the cheap thrill NLE at The Grammys ??????????? Look for 2 fat, geeky-looking people with a video camera :) Alberto Carrasco will be there. Carolyn Andre will be there. Mitch Pravatiner will be there (right??). Chip Lueck and his wife Jo will be there. Are there any other Ectophiles in Chicago? We're also going to Kenosha and Toledo. I wish I could go to them all, especially the Tin Angel, but it's not going to happen. Seeing her 3 times in 4 days is a pretty good thrill though. ========= I have a ticket to the Noe Venable show at Schubas on the 30th (ok, it's listed as a Carla Bozulich show, but I'm not going to stay for that, I'm only going to see Noe). Chris is out of town and can't go. Anyone else going to that? Noe, thank you for posting about it.
