It's been pointed out about how most people know him for that one video, but I actually tend to skip that one song on his album "Riptide". I've been playing that disc a bit the last couple of days and have to admit to myself that I love and respect this album. From the pondering horns and his crooning in the title cut (and its reprised version), to the blues-themed track "Trick bag" (where I keep expecting to hear some mention of "mojo", but never do), to the hauntingly plaintive "Get It Through Your Heart", to the dance-inducing "Hyperactive" (not to be confused with the Dolby tune of the same name). He runs the gamut and tugs at various strings... and for me they all work. Just skip track #3. ;) While I admit that's the only album I have of his (aside from the Power Station, where he does most of the vocals), it's still sad to know he's gone. You gotta feel a bit of underdog pang for a guy who contributed a song to the Explorers movie soundtrack ("All Around The World") only to have the album stickers announcing a great new track by Robert PLANT. One of my favorite painter songs is "Girl On A Train" by 10,000 Maniacs, which uses a haunting, dreamlike folk atompshere as a setting for a story about a painter trying to capture memories of a dead lover. I also love a song by Jewel from her first album called "Painters," a kind of tragedy set around a melancholy chorus of 'They were painters and they had painted themselves a lovely little world...' And then there's the cliche painter song, Don McLean's "Vincent," but I still think it's one of most beautiful ballads from that era. Hi all, Does anyone here have an opinion on (or has heard of) Christene LeDoux? - - http://www.christeneledoux.com/ - I came across her while searching through musi-cal for shows to visit during my upcoming trip to California. She has a house concert in Modesto (on the 11th) that doesn't really fit in the vague idea for a schedule that I've been forming, but that I might still try to attend, seeing as how it's a house concert. (I've never been to a house concert, but the idea of them appeals immensely to me.) I've downloaded what's probably her entire album from mp3.com and am listening to that now, but it always takes me quite some time to form an opinion on music I hear for the first time (so far it's definitely not scaring me away though), and live performances can give an entire different dimension to the music again, so if someone could say "yes, you definitely should go and see her", or "nah, don't bother", that would be quite appreciated. Also, any recommendations for shows to visit in California (and possibly nearby states) between 3 and 16 october? Terami Hirsch has a show in Pasadena on the 6th that I'm definitely attending, but other than that I haven't yet had much luck finding anything. Thanks in advance! SOME cities that she is disappointed not to play are Washington, Atlanta, Dallas, oh yes, and countries: Ireland, England, Japan, Australia, New Zealand. She recalls in the latter place how fiercely blue the skies, how starchy the clouds, how far apart the air molecules and how dangerous the waters just beyond the reef. She is also very pleased that so many of you caught the Seattle, OR error and will once again think carefully before her next challenge for your eagle-eyed pleasure. Yes, the correct answer is Seattle, WA. Well done. You certainly push her to new heights. EDITORIAL REQUEST: Jane is looking for help with the text for the CD. She previously asked for editorial help but now refines this request with the need for someone who is experienced in 'auld' who might know where 'power' should be 'pow'r' or 'amid' should be 'amidst', etc. If there is anyone who might be able to double-check what she has done, please contact us and we will refer you to a private page on the website for comments. sincerely, Sarah Winklebottom, for Jane Siberry - -- To unsubscribe/change profile: http://www.mailermailer.com/x?u=12436763i-6bc041fc To subscribe: http://www.mailermailer.com/x?oid=09469w Email list management powered by http://MailerMailer.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Sep 2003 01:46:43 EDT From: RavFlight@aol.com Subject: Commercial Song?
