I paid $50 or more to get Japanese imports of Judee Sill's two albums. You guys will be able to get them for whatever the going rate for CD's is nowadays. Ten dollars (in our dreams). No, $15.00, I'm sure. Sill is great. Her arrangements are beautiful; then if you throw in her very poetic language and a nice, warm alto, you have beautiful music. She uses Christian language and symbols but her theology certainly doesn't match that of my Baptist upbringing. I think it is safe to say she is a mystic who uses whatever religious symbols fall to hand. In fact I have been scandalized in the past by a few words in one of her songs: "However we are is okay." That doesn't sit too well with conservative religious thought, since we are supposed to be striving all the time to achieve perfection. Nowadays, I tend to agree with her: we are okay. Allow me to quote: Lopin' along thru the Cosmos/and sideways I slide thru the square,/I'm hopin' so hard for a kiss from God,/I missed the sweet love of the air..../A silver chariot soars/Thru mercury ripples of sky,/I'm lookin' so hard for a place to land,/I almost forgot how to fly..../So keep on movin'/Or stay by my side, either way,/I'll tell you a secret/I've never revealed/However we are is O.K. The music enveloping these lyrics includes strings, French horns, flutes (I think) and other instruments I can't recall at the moment. (This was before sampling, so the sounds are 100% human executed.) Try her music, I think you'll like it. I was listening to both albums a couple of weeks ago and marveling at everything she did back in the late 60's, early 70's. Lyle n.p. A little ditty I'm working on. I'm trying to make a fake wurlizer sound more like a real wurlizer. n.r. _Victory_. Joseph Conrad. _________________________________________________________________ Get 10MB of e-mail storage! I just disagree. And listening to Guyville more likely wont sway me much more than repeated playing of. Madonna would convince me she had anything of interest for me. Thats just how personal tastes go, no big deal. It mightve really made your head explode if Id said how equally unimpressed I am with most of Toris output, too. And how I find her onstage demeanor so insufferably pretentious, I walked out of a performance of hers several years ago But such is the diversity of Ectoids I guess thats why they make chocolate AND vanilla. Now The Cure, on the other hand... I would and have clawed over bodies to see them... Did you happen to see them on Craig Kilborn last night? ~A - --- ToriCure@aol.com wrote: Alberto, not to be rude... but have you seriously given that album a few listens? At face value, I can understand why you assume your opinion but there is so much more beneath the monotone voice and seedy photo concept. Despite the obvious sexual-shock rock content, her lyrics often paint a remarkable picture about human nature and relationships. No other artists have been able to express themselves lyrically in quite the same unique manner found on Guyville. I constantly come back to it, listen, and always come away hearing something new that I never picked up on before. And I've been a fan of this record since 94. The great thing about it is you either love it or hate it. Very few things in life are so black and white. There really is no in between. From your observations, it appears that you haven't given it much time or consideration. I highly recommend that you give it a decent try. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
