Wow. Is it just me, or is this a really stand out pair of records for Liz and Robin? It's not as if its insanely different from most of their stuff, but its carried by this dark undercurrent that sounds like swimming in a bottomless lake on a summer night, or something. The guitars seem fairly dark. Liz's vocals are beautifully aggressive on this one. None of the songs break the consistent vibe of summery darkness and feverish sensuality. The unbrokenness really makes it a trip. Does anyone else have this? I don't, I think I'd put it right up there with my absolute favorite Cocteau, Treasure. I still have them on the original 12 inch singles, not played very much. Maybe I'll get them out and give them a spin soon... I would still say, if I had to pick a fave Cocteau Twins album, it would be Victorialand. And bits of Blue Bell Knoll are pretty amazing, especially the title song and "Cico Buff" Azeem in London ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Sep 2003 20:11:53 -0700 (PDT) From: Michael Mendelson Subject: ecto spam? I received not one but two emails from some jane person who must have gotten my address from the EGTGM. Have others received this spam? If so, I would like to know if there is any way we can remove the email addresses from the postings there? Thanks. - -mjm __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Have others received this spam? > If so, I would like to know if there is any way we can remove the email > addresses from the postings there? i'll jump in on this one - if the same address in the guide is the one you use to post to ecto, there's not much that can be done as it's still accessible via various newsgroup archives elsewhere on the net. my own ecto archive at ecto-archives.usrbin.ca has been `spam-proofed' against automated address harvesters though people can still get your address there visually. unfortunately i can't easily make the same change to the guide, short of a major overhaul (though such may be overdue anyway, and i will certainly keep this in mind for next time i delve deep into the structure of the guide). beyond that, though, there is another option. if you want your email address not to show up in the guide, you can simply to ask neile to use some key for your entries other than your email address. email addresses get used by default, though perhaps that policy should be rethought anyway. for instance, all my entries show up with my commentator name `damon' instead of my email address; neile's show up as `Neile'. if you ask neile to do the same for yours, i believe she'll do a global replace in all the entries. for instance you could ask her to change all yours to just `mjm' if you like. if you'd still like people to be able to contact you (which might be nice, as someone trying to get a feel for what you like might want to ask questions...?) you can always submit a bio (see http://ectoguide.org/contactbio) with an alternate contact email on it, that you don't mind being publically available. or you can always just put something like `mjmjminla (at) yahoo (dot) com' in your bio as text. neile, is this a pain for you to do, or is it nice and easy? if it's a pain, i don't mind coming up with a better way to do it, for instance we could set up each commentator with both `real' and `display' keys, so instead of replacing the old key in all files, the program could do it for you on the fly. all you'd need to do would be to update the `display' key in the commentators.list file. let me know. - -damon - -- dl+ecto@usrbin.ca: protecting my real address since 2002 (too late!) > EWS starts here! < ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V9 #253 **************************
