It will be on the Chronogram website around the 1st of September (www.chronogram.com) along with a new photograph. Meanwhile, check out the pre-pub review/profile at www.geocities.com/runly/kb.html Happy listening, Sharon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Aug 2003 10:30:11 -0400 From: Jeff Wasilko Subject: new halou ep I just saw (in the Ectoguide!) that Halou has a new EP out: http://www.halou.com/html/listen.html#wholenessep ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Aug 2003 17:39:54 +0100 From: "Adam K." Subject: Thea Gilmore review/Jewel interview. In today's Observer, a small review of "Avalanche", the new Thea Gilmore album: "Thea Gilmore has been called both the female David Gray and the female Ryan Adams - troublesome compliments for a songwriter who really should be feted for herself. But there is a useful parallel between the loops and outsider cachet of 'Avalanche' - remarkably, Gilmore's fifth album - and Gray's 'White Ladder'. 'Avalanche' just about deserves 'White Ladder''s sales figures, too, even if one of the more eloquent tracks on it, 'Mainstream', eyes the, er, mainstream with considerable scorn. Some of Gilmore's guitar jangles are not particularly original, but her songwriting is: vituperative, elegant and sharp as a tack" Great to hear the word "vituperative" in a review (you just never hear it enough, these days) although I, personally, think that Thea is worth far more than a comparison with Ryan Adams. Meanwhile, in the same section of the paper, there's an interesting interview with Jewel, with the interviewer clearly (to my reading) not sure whether the new album is an intentional piss-take or what, while Jewel herself insists: "I wanted to combine dance music with urban beats with folks music. I think that's interesting: I'm not making the same old music time and again. But the radio programmers go 'Oh, nice peeps' and don't even notice the record". Thea Gilmore's "Avalanche" is released tomorrow. I've got my copy pre-ordered, the only album I've ever actually bought on the day of release. adam k. I will get it on Wed. since I'm on holiday from work and don't plan to leave my little town for the bigger towns/cities with CD stores until then. :) > (slowly melting to a small and noxious-smelling > puddle on the floor) Me too... Went to London yesterday to see the all-female cast production of Taming of the Shrew at the Globe (very good, btw -- and Mark Rylance stood next to me in the yard :), and I melted... Ellen, who must check her school's calendar for September to make sure there isn't a parents' evening the night Dar Williams plays London... ===== "Literature stops in 1100. I think hearing it this once pretty much does it for me...
