It's a shame her label / management can't get their act together enough to email people, or at least the fan mailing lists. 2003.07.17 - Joe's Pub; New York, New York, USA 2003.07.23 - Pianos; New York, New York, USA 2003.07.31 - Tractor Tavern; Seattle, Washington, USA 2003.08.01 - Dante's; Portland, Oregon, USA 2003.08.03 - Cafi du Nord; San Francisco, California, USA 2003.08.05 - Troubadour; Los Angeles, California, USA 2003.08.06 - The Casbah; San Diego, California, USA 2003.08.08 - Liquid Joes; Salt Lake City, Utah, USA 2003.08.09 - AAA Convention; Boulder, Colorado, USA 2003.08.11 - 400 Bar; Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA 2003.08.12 - Martyrs'; Chicago, Illinois, USA 2003.08.13 - The Shelter; Detroit, Michigan, USA 2003.08.15 - Uncle Pleasants; Louisville, Kentucky, USA 2003.08.16 - The Orange Peel; Asheville, North Carolina, USA 2003.08.17 - Smith's Olde Bar; Atlanta, Georgia, USA 2003.08.19 - 12th & Porter; Nashville, Tennessee, USA 2003.08.22 - Club Cafi; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA 2003.08.23 - Tin Angel; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA 2003.08.23 - Tin Angel; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA 2003.08.24 - Iron Horse Music Hall; Northampton, Massachusetts, USA 2003.08.26 - House of Blues; Boston, Massachusetts, USA 2003.08.31 - Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre; Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA 2003.09.01 - Alltel Pavilion at Walnut Creek; Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA 2003.09.02 - Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre; Charlotte, North Carolina, USA 2003.09.05 - Mizner Park Amphitheater; Boca Raton, Florida, USA 2003.09.06 - USF Sun Dome; Tampa, Florida, USA For those of you not familiar with Leona, I highly recommend her second album, "I tried to rock you but you only roll." It mixes acoustic with electric, strings with synths and sticks everything underneath fab songwriting. My favourite tracks are "Mayor of Your Town," "Mexico," and ITTRBYOR. McKinley's CD release concert (along with Deb Talan, who I've never heard) happens at the Aladdin in Portland tonight (Friday) at 8pm. 12 or 13 bucks to get in. Worth coming to if you are anywhere in the area. Quite an occasion, and quite an audience: a much better age and gender mix than I thought, including some young(ish)German kids who were first in the queue. the show itself....loud. Very loud. I was right down in front (we're all far too old to mosh) so the mix was not great, and a lot of the dynamics and interplay that I love about the band on record got lost amidst the squall of guitar, guitar and more guitar. I mean, Roye Albrighton is one hell of a guitar player, probably one of the most underrated around, but I certainly discovered my limit of guitar solos last night. Ye gods, time has been less than kind, too. Ron Howden, the drummer, while never less than powerful and impressive, looked like someone's beloved grandfather who's just popped in from the garden to do a spot of drumming. That said, the energy was good, they were certainly having fun, and they covered a major part of their career, and it WAS fantastic to see them all together for the first time (as more than one person said: "I've waited 30 years for this!")I've seen the Albrighton-less Nektar in Chicago in '77, and Albrighton's own version in the Lone Star Cafe, of all places, in NYC in '78 or '79, but never the whole crew together, so this was something special. Bands half their age (hell, a third their age) could learn a few things from the energy they put out last night. Oh yeah, one more red: Your Redneck Friend by They Might Be Giants. well, if you can have Your Rednecked Past, I figured.... adam k. - ------------------------------------------------ This mail sent through http://webmail.zoom.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jul 2003 09:42:09 -0400 (EDT) From: dmw Subject: did anyone say?
