The Carina Round interview mentions her new album, due out in September, and she cites a few other english female artists, including Thea Gilmore and Katell Keineg (is she english?). Worth a look, however out of date. adam k. - ------------------------------------------------ This mail sent through http://webmail.zoom.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jul 2003 09:32:31 EDT From: RedWoodenBeads@aol.com Subject: new albums The only stuff from 2003 that I've been listening to are free jazz records by people like William Parker and Matthew Ship. There is, occasionally, some reason to still listen to the radio. Yesterday I heard Dido's new single, "White Flag." I was at the bowling alley, so I didn't get to pay TOO much attention, but it sounded good, similar to the stuff on her deubt album _No Angel_. It will be on her second album, Life For Rent, due on September 30 in the US (9/29 in UK). It was a great and relaxed concert and the hosts are wonderful, lots of welcoming energy and tons of food! Any touring Ecto-act, I highly recommend them, if anyone tours thru Oregon, just contact me. They are great and have been following the BLIND for years and just started doing house concerts. (they also have a great story of going to see BLIND in concert and going the wrong night and standing in line for a GWAR concert thinking it was LAND OF THE BLIND, and everyone staring at them and asking them "are you sure you want to go in?" and they were thinking "what the hell, has Blind changed that much?".... SPROGS AND MUSIC, hmmm yes, their child was in love with me and in love with the band and in love with the "stage" area and in love with my musical toys, and he just wouldn't quit! (last concert the little sprog was a lot quieter!) He wasn't mine to beat so I hope he didn't ruin your concert too much. Thanks for coming down from Portland to Salem and thanks for the wonderful elixir! The most delicious drink folks and Michael is the master home-brewer! (the label alone is worth it even if the drink wasn't such a great mix of flavors) love, cyo, back and tired!!! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jul 2003 14:14:07 -0700 (PDT) From: Neb Rodgers Subject: Fwd: What's My Pirate Name 'Tis a fine name... arrrr! - -Neb - ---Original Message--- fidius.org - What's My Pirate Name http://www.fidius.org/quiz/pirate.php .................... My favorite discs of the year so far: Rachael Sage's _publicrecord_, Erin McKeown's _Grand_, and Maybe Baby's eponymous debut (that's Jennifer Kimball's new gig). I know I'm forgetting lots of other great stuff, but those are the titles that immediately sprang to mind when I read your query. Oh -- yeah, and Sloan Wainwright *just* put out _Cool Morning_, which I haven't had much time to delve into. Much mellower and lower-key than her previous releases, but no less lovely for that. I would expect that the Mary Fahl fans should eat this one up (I've heard Mary Fahl's new one and it really did nothing for me -- I'd much rather listen to Sloan instead). =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V9 #202 **************************
