Even though I enjoyed the other songs I've heard, I could never figure out what kind of band they were, and didn't get around to finding out for myself. The ballads on this are gorgeous, particularly the first two tracks - 'Communication' and 'You're the storm'. Odd way to start an album - it creeps in. Both those tracks have guitar interludes that belong to other songs and genres entirely! Grrr. The rocking songs are great - 'A good horse', and 'Live and learn' are my favs of those, and 'For what it's worth' is a catchy toe-tapping mid-tempo number. The lyrics can be a bit clunky and there are some cliches, but it doesn't really matter. Actually, just checking back, the phrases that annoyed me first few listens work fine now. Will have to check out their other lps, dammit. Karen __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! And if she gets her way, she'll soon add "movie producer" to her resume. The "Intuition" singer tells MTV she recently secured the rights to a movie script, and that she hopes to get the project in front of the cameras soon. Jewel tells the cable network that the movie is "about a young male character's relationship with his mom." The Alaska-native says she would like Goldie Hawn to direct the film. Jewel said she plans to play a small part in the film, in addition to producing it. Jewel tells MTV, "I look at scripts all the time. It's really hard for me to find something really good. Pravatiner" Subject: Hell does freeze over By the law of averages, it just had to happen. The July 10 _Rolling Stone_ has a favorable review of _Liz Phair_. It says, "there's no denying her lusty, whimsical and disarmingly direct lyrical presence," and that the reviewer's favorite tracks "match the lofty songwriting standard of her 1993 debut, _Exile in Guyville_." It concludes, "Phair is a fine lyricist, and although she's lost some musical identity, she's gained potential Top Forty access. The rest is up to radio, and you." The obvious was never belabored more elequently :-). It's on the web at www.rollingstone.com/reviews/cd/review.asp?aid=2046818 .
