An incredible musical talent who died too early in life. Among other things, Jimmie Spheeris' album, "Isle of View," http://www.jimmiespheeris.com/iov/isle.htm, has the best album cover of all time. Here's another for the most beautiful voices list: Pamela Morgan (singer/songwriter, who used to be with Newfoundland Celtic/folk band Figgy Duff. "Unique", maybe. But not "beautiful". yeah, what meth said (for future reference, it's safe to assume i agree with what meth says, regardless:-) note that Bjork's music can be beautiful, and her voice wonderful, even though her voice on its own may not be beautiful. i note, however, that the Bjork concert at Riverside Church had moments of pure vocal beauty, so go figure. > I am, however, smacking myself upside the head for omitting Margo > Timmins from my list. (A whole album of Margo singing Java code? > Where can I pre-order? ;) yeah. i kind of associate Ms. Timmins and Ms. Merchant together, voice-wise, and while Natalie may hit higher peaks of, erm, laconic splendor now and again, Margo is more consistent for me, and is beautiful in a very approachable, familiar way; definitely a voice to spend long summer evenings with. though then again i am drawn to melancholy, hence... > And Heather Nova, too ... I'd actually thought of her but then > forgot again before I hit "send". :P ...yeah, ditto again, but... ...Aimee Mann! her voice is not consistently beautiful -- it can be nasal, maybe a git gawky and contrary. but on something like "Moth" from "Lost in Space" voice and style really click, and it's lovely. great thread, eh? it's nice to see so many names, both posting and posted, if you follow. ta. - -g - -- I have never been afraid to change the circumstances of the world - -- Happy Rhodes ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Jun 2003 22:16:36 -0400 From: Robert Lovejoy Subject: Re: most beautiful voices I agree with what everyone else says, and would like to add Roy Orbison to the list. The agreement was reached over the weekend and spares the industry and webcasters a costly arbitration with the U.S. Copyright Office, which was scheduled to start at the end of the month, the Recording Industry Association of America said in a statement. The deal covers six years, 1998 to 2004, and sets the range of annual minimum fees webcasters must pay to broadcast copyright music over the Internet. The agreement also caps the recording industry's effort to secure licensing deals with all Internet, cable and satellite radio companies. The industry reached a royalty deal with commercial Internet music broadcasters in April. "We now have all the pieces to the puzzle, and the recording industry can now concentrate on working with these groups to deliver music to fans in exciting, new ways," Steven Marks, an RIAA senior executive, said in a statement. Depending on the year, how many broadcast channels a webcaster transmits on and the type of Web site, the noncommercial webcasters will have to pay from $200 to $500 annually. "This agreement gives educational institutions with webcasting operations a break," said Sheldon Steinbach, general counsel of the American Council on Education. "(It) ... allows college webcasters with low-budget operations and small staffs to continue or begin streaming in a way that further students' media experiences on campus." A 1998 law required that organizations broadcasting music and other radio content over the Internet pay fees to record companies to compensate artists and music labels for use of their songs. Initial attempts by the industry and webcasters to agree on fees failed and the dispute fell to the Copyright Office. The office set fees per song, drawing complaints from large and small webcasters. A new round of arbitration was scheduled, but the agreements now make that unnecessary. ____ On the Net: Recording Industry Association of America: http://www.riaa.com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
