I was just listening to RadioParadise.com while surfing, and heard the delightfully familiar harmonies of Vienna's "Soon Love Soon" coming through the headphones. They apparently added her last December, but I somehow missed hearing them play her until now. Another excellent reason to listen to (and support) webcast music. Ok, has anyone else heard the new Jewel single? It's her voice and all, but I think I may faint. Susan Werner is singing the National Anthem before the game. The seats are in section 18 (see http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/bos/images/seating_views/photo_seating_view18.jpg or http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/bos/ticketing/bos_seating_pricing.jsp?cl ub_context=bos ) for the view from those seats. Normally the seats are $44 in the grandstand, but the group rate was $29. If you are interested in the ticket, let me know. You can reach me via mail or via cell phone at 781-367-2968. - -j ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 May 2003 14:06:48 -0700 (PDT) From: kitty kat Subject: Re: whoa...Vienna getting airplay (sort of) Apparently she's getting airplay up here in the Seattle area - I overheard one of my co-workers talking about this amazing musician Vienna Teng, and I of course had to say I was on a mailing list with her :) She heard her on KMTT 'The Mountain' 103.7 FM, and the deejay was positively gushing. He played 'The Tower', and she immediately ordered the CD online. Vienna, m'dear, you're certainly on the move! Tomorrow (Thursday) at 8:30pm at the Make-Out Room in San Francisco. Friday at 9pm at the Starry Plough in Berkeley. This is my most favorite band ever. I'll be a little late to tonight's show. I'll be at the entirety of Thursday's show. Unfortunately I'm out of town Friday or I'd go to that show too! They play un-amplified, and you will laugh your head off as well as be awed by musical prowess and creativity. Don't miss 'em if you can at all make it. Long-time member Stan Smith is retiring - this is his last tour. You'll be glad you got to see him live. I promise. ectophiles will adore Christina Marrs' voice, as well as her playing of the musical saw, a very special treat. If you see me, say hello (i'm the one with the blue hair). Just don't kick me for not having mentioned the Spankers here before. :/ Just be glad I'm doing it now. :) - --jessica ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 May 2003 15:44:17 -0700 (PDT) From: kitty kat Subject: Re: bay area ectophiles should check out the Asylum Street Spankers this week Just to add my own input (and I think I was in a grouchy mood when I saw them) - they are fun, but they can get a little bit raunchy, and some of the crowd they draw seem to be there purely for the offensiveness aspect. I was a bit put off by their live show, and prefer to listen to their recorded music and skip the songs I don't like :) - -Kat, just my 2 cents... If you're offended by strong language or sexual content, this wouldn't be a great show for you. It's worth knowing that up front. Also not a good show if you're strongly anti-drug. This band has a great time with their marijuana and beer references. I am personally not a drug user (well, i'm a light user of alcohol, but I'm very sensitive to heavy alcohol use having had far too much personal exposure to alcoholism as a child *and* as an adult), and I don't find any of the drug references to be anything but funny and intelligent. My personal experience (and I've seen the Spankers literally dozens of times, countless times), is that the raunchy bits of the show are a very small part of the show. Very few of the songs actually use any curse words, and even fewer are the "especially raunchy" ones. And some of the raunchy ones are sexual only by inference, not directly. ie; a young kid wouldn't get what you were laughing at at all, and wouldn't have any idea that explicit/sexual material was being mentioned. At all of the peninsula Spankers' shows I've been to, there's been a large number of older folks in the audience, and they enjoy themselves quite a lot. I've sent my parents to Spankers shows twice - both times they had a fantastic time. Of course, maybe my parents are a little odd. :) Well - I'm not kidding when I say they're my favorite band ever. (Note that female singer/songwriters do not fall into my "band" category, so this is not a comparison with folks like Happy and Kate.) Hope to see some of you. - --jessica ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 May 2003 14:12:44 +1000 From: "Anthony Horan" Subject: Re: DVD rippin' Marcel asked, > How can I start rippin' DVD's? > I have a nice DVD recorder in my PC, but in the last five months I have > not been able to do anything with it. Grab this donationware program and it'll do whatever you need to do: http://www.dvddecrypter.com/ Despite its name implying its main reason for existing, it also does a great job of extracting program material from DVD Recorder-created discs. Most of those retail software packages use stolen code (and in many cases whole freeware programs) without the consent of the original authors. The author of the above software claims that his program has been stolen by the marketers of: a.. DVD Squeeze a.. DVD Copy Decrypter a.. DVD Cutter a..
