Someone here mentioned that they thought that the new iPod was both Mac and Win. It's true that Apple isn't packaging a Mac and Windows iPod separately, as they did on the last release. However, when you get one of the new iPods, it comes formatted as a Mac iPod (HFS+) out of the box. If you use it with a Windows machine, the software will reformat it to Windows (FAT32). In short, this means that sharing an iPod between a Windows machine and a Macintosh is somewhat difficult. For the vast majority of users, this likely isn't a problem. I do use my iPod with both my PowerBook and my ThinkPad, so I have to get around it. It's not difficult, it's just a little bit of extra software setup. I'm a geek, so it doesn't particularly bother me. /nm ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 May 2003 03:00:04 -0400 (EDT) From: Mike Matthews Subject: Today's your birthday, friends... i*i*i*i*i*i i*i*i*i*i*i *************** *****HAPPY********* **************BIRTHDAY********* *************************************************** *************************************************************************** ********************* Gray Abbott (no Email address) ********************** ******************* Tamar Boursalian (no Email address) ******************* *************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Gray Abbott Tue May 03 1955 Suprised Tamar Boursalian Tue May 03 1966 Taurus Richard A. Sin-e is a good new venue I've been to a couple times already. It might be because this was one of the first albums I got (and the only one I've ever just _found_ in a store in the Netherlands), but I've discovered that I've grown really fond of _The Keep_ - which has a lot of accoustic, live or just plain alternate versions of known Happy songs, as well as some otherwise unreleased songs. Most of these are extremely beautiful, and a few songs that I didn't like all that much on other albums actually became my favorites in the versions as found on here. :) Sander ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 03 May 2003 12:03:48 -0400 From: noam tchotchke Subject: susan mckeown on wfuv while looking at http://www.wfuv.org/ for something else, i noticed that susan mckeown will be making a guest appearance on wfuv's city folk sunday breakfast on sunday, may 18th. the program runs from 8 to 11 but i'm not sure when susan will be on. those in nyc can tune in at 90.7fm while the rest of us schlubs will have to settle for their windows media stream at http://www.wfuv.org/wfuvlive.asx woj p.s. to ectophiles: sloan wainwright is the guest on the may 11th edition of the show. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 May 2003 10:58:21 -0700 From: "William Mazur" Subject: RE: Happy Rhodes sale -- recommendations? Adam, My recommendation would be The Keep. The Keep is a wonderful representation of many of Happy's songs in more of an acoustic setting. It is Happy, Kevin and Carl on these tracks. So it is a mix of acoustic, electric and bass guitar that create the unique arrangements of Happy's songs on this recording. They all tastefully use effects on their instruments to create a dreamy quality for most of the songs. Happy's singing is very beautiful and more essential on these stripped down arrangements. Her versions of "Temporary and Eternal" and "Save Our Souls" are even more compelling to me than the original versions. All the best! Hi, I'll add my enthusiastic recommendation for _The Keep_. It's worth it for the stunning version of "Temporary and Eternal" alone. I never much cared for the song on _Equipoise_, but Happy's vocals in that version literally made me pull the car over the first time I heard it. Kevin's atmospheric guitar work is stellar, too. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 03 May 2003 12:29:22 -0700 From: "Bill" Subject: Re: mp3 players On Fri, 2 May 2003 16:25:10 -0400, JoAnn Whetsell wrote: >I'm thinking about getting a portable mp3 player and thought I'd ask >here for advice. But, I recently purchased a Sony Cli PEG-NR70 personal organizer, which comes with a built-in MP3 player, and can play MP3s once you add a Memory Stick card. I must admit that I have enjoyed taking the Cli for a walk, neatly tucked in my shirt pocket, and enjoyed having a couple of hours worth of music with me without the hassles of my portable CD player. So, if you happen to be in the market for a PDA, or some other device that will play a dual role as an MP3 player, perhaps you can first check out how much you would (or not) enjoy MP3 audio on the go before you buy a whole-enchilada player such as the iPod. Thanks Bich Ngoc, That's a fine suggestion. I've been to Clair de Lune, and it's quite nice. I'm still curious if there is a focal point (or folkal point?) for acoustic music there now. When I lived there a decade ago, it was the Inner Change and something else, Tribes maybe? It eventually became Java Joe's. Clair was nice, but I don't think they charge a cover (and thus don't pay well). Anyway, I will pass that info on to my friend.
