The cd was largely in Hebrew, but she went on to have a rather successful international career, which goes on until today. Kind regards, Marcel Rijs - marcel.rijs@kb.nl afd. Meth, if you're out there, if you remember when you came by for the Prism Happy Rhodes concert taping, you bought a CD that bottomed out my previous (and new at the time!) Mirage sub handily. The new sub goes flat down to 20Hz and according to test tones still puts out feelable output at 10Hz. It's a monster, and I've really been enjoying it a lot. Home Theatre never sounded so cool. Musically, I've noticed that it adds no coloration to the sound. My old sub gave music bass an added weight; now I hear no more or less than what's recorded. Just for fun, I picked up an album by Bass Mekanik, which I think is geared towards the car subwoofer crowd and is decidedly non-ecto. But it packs a prodigious deep wallop that is utterly amazing. On a more ecto friendly line, the last track on the new Beth Orton, "Thinking About Tomorrow" (great song, BTW!), has a wonderful deep solid bottom to it. And Peter Gabriel's soundtrack to Long Walk Home is also stunning. So I pose the question to the ecto community - can any of you recommend some nice tracks that include deep and powerful bass energy? Thanks for any input! Bob Lovejoy ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Apr 2003 10:03:39 -0400 From: "Foghorn J. Fornorn" Subject: RE: Low Fidelity There's a CD by Che Zuro, available from CD Baby or from her own website (http://www.checheche.com) called Welcome Home. At least one review I've read considers the bass on it 'overproduced'. That may or may not be true; it certainly exercises the subwoofer. If your new gear can handle this cleanly you can be proud. Nail down your knickknacks first. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Apr 2003 01:33:42 +1000 From: "Anthony Horan" Subject: More Wendy Rule songs to download Hi everyone, Wendy Rule's new album "The Lotus Eaters" was released today (April 28th), and with remarkable good timing I've finally sorted through the technical red tape and gotten some tracks from it online for streaming and download at: http://www.mp3.com.au/WendyRule Up until now Wendy's had MP3 downloads available through the US-based mp3.com, but that site has gone rapidly downhill since being bought by the lumbering (and now struggling) corporate behemoth that is Vivendi Universal, and now will only allow artists to have three tracks at a time available for download unless they pay a fee to feature more. I'll be moving all the tracks from the mp3.com page to mp3.com.au soon, which of course means that the custom mp3.com CD album that's been available for some years now (including my first attempt at album cover design!) is about to be permanently deleted. :) But I digress (as usual!). There are three of the album's 15 tracks on the new page for downloading, one of them being "Penelope" which many of you grabbed an OggVorbis version of from the secret ectolocation on Wendy's site some weeks back. Those wanting a copy of the album who aren't in Australia can get one direct from Wendy's distributor at http://www.shock.com.au/releases/info.asp?release_ID=121698 Apologies if this is too spam-like - promise next time I'll write about something else :-) - - Anthony ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Apr 2003 12:41:33 -0400 (EDT) From: stumck@webtv.net (stuart mckenney) Subject: SALE: CDs & Records hi list -- i'm selling part of my music collection and thought some members here might be interested in perusing the selections. the genres are a mixture of indiepop, 'shoegaze,' alternative pop, folk, and other styles. sample artists include all about eve, american music club, arab strap, peter astor, tori amos, autumns, aztec camera, badly drawn boy, ballboy, bark psychosis, bathers, bats, ben & jason, biff bang pow!, tim buckley, chills, church, cocteau twins, lloyd cole, coldplay, comsat angels, delgados, sandy denny, nick drake, guy chadwick, everything but the girl, galaxie 500, glide, harvest ministers, heart throbs, hummingbirds, insides, interpol, jazz butcher, julie doiron, departure lounge, kent, dave kusworth, luna, lush, kirsty maccoll, marine girls, grant mclennan, ian mcnabb, my bloody valentine, my friend the chocolate cake, beth orton, paradise motel, posies, eddi reader, ride, sigur ros, silencers, smiths, snake corps, state of grace, swervedriver, stephen hero, richard & linda thompson, trembling blue stars, turin brakes, verve, yo la tengo, and many more.... an experienced and accomplished ebay seller who ships worldwide is helping me with the process, and i'll post a link to her auctions at the end of this message. if the link won't work, her list of items for sale can be accessed by clicking on "search" at the top of the ebay homepage, continuing by selecting "search by seller," and finally entering her user ID into the corresponding search box: myhobbyshop please be sure to view all 7 pages -- i hope you see something you like - -- here's the link: http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=myhobbyshop&completed=0&sort=3&since=-1&include=0&page=1&rows=25 thanks and take care, stuart ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Apr 2003 13:51:53 -0700 From: Joseph Zitt Subject: Re: Low Fidelity Robert Lovejoy wrote: > So I pose the question to the ecto community - can any of you recommend >some nice tracks that include deep and powerful bass energy? > Do I recall correctly a discussion here lonnnnng ago about deep bass notes on ecto recordings? I say "try" because that is what I was doing - trying to navigate it from a variety of browsers in three different operating systems. Guess which one - the only one - displayed the Flash-driven menu (sorry, folks) correctly? You got it. Microsoft Internet Explorer (Flash-plugin installed), and then only the Windows version. You _can_ try to navigate the site with Opera 6 (Mac), but it's a little like stumbling in the dark, even with Flash. Needless to say, I am not happy about this. Linux users will especially be dismayed, especially those (like me) doing the Penguin (in a dual-boot system) on a Old World Mac. And yes,I have notified Louisa about this. I'll keep you posted. I did. Folk and rock music are hopelessly intertwined. Judging from this article, Carolyn Hester may have been the proto-Happy Rhodes, voice-wise. I have heard of Hester but can't say as I've heard her. There is mention of Eliza Gilkyson's father. And I didn't know that Buddy Holly assisted with some Hester folk songs recorded in beautiful, downtown Clovis, NM. Seventh Street, to be exact. I better not start on Norman Petty's recording studio or I will drone on for pages. The synth bass in Rick Wakeman's "Merlin the Magician" (from _The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table_) goes pretty low. I don't know its actual frequency, but it's low, and it's "thick", so it should give your subwoofer a good workout. Moreover, it's a synth lead played in portamento, so it will go from high to very low frequencies continuously (not in note increments), and that makes it nice to hear the different frequencies "crossing-over" from one speaker dome/element to the next. I've never owned a subwoofer, but my Infinity RS-6000A speakers are known for their "strong bass" quality, and, on the rare occasions when I found myself without neighbors, I sure have enjoyed impressing house guests with the low, low sounds on "Merlin the Magician" as they are rendered through my Infinity speakers. - - Bill G. np: {this entry deleted by NonEctoAssassin - "for those times when you play crap only to impress the woman on the couch"} nr: Po Bronson - "What should I do with my life?" ------------------------------ Date: 29 Apr 2003 15:31:11 +1000 From: Andrew Fries Subject: Re: Low Fidelity On Mon, 2003-04-28 at 21:15, Robert Lovejoy wrote: > So I pose the question to the ecto community - can any of you recommend > some nice tracks that include deep and powerful bass energy? > Lamb - Fear of Fours ... pretty much the whole CD :) - -- - --------------------------------------------------------------------- "I have always tried to live in an ivory tower, but a tide of shit is beating at its walls, threatening to undermine it." -- Gustave Flaubert - -- 15:29:46 up 10 days, 23:35, 2 users, load average: 0.00, 0.03, 0.13-- ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V9 #119 **************************
