The first recording that featured her name above the title, so to speak, was in a duo with Clive Gregson: Home And Away was a live recording. And her first solo album, Live, was, erm, also a live recording (hence the name). She's still my favourite singer in the whole damn world, and if you haven't had a chance to see her yet, you owe it to yourself to rectify this lamentable state of affairs. She's touring this year, so check out the website: www.thebeesknees.com and then follow the link to her bit. Only downfall was that the sound really sucked at several points in the show - bass was just far too high in the mix and distorted out a lot of Kristin's vocals. But the band was intense, and it was a wall of sound from start to finish. Songs old and new. Kristin remains an enigma onstage - singing with such intensity but with a perpetual staid look and intense stare focused on the back of the room. Hello, Dylan, and sorry for the delay: From our discussion on CD-R lifespans and which ones come out on top: > Mitsui is the best brand of cd-rs. The gold ones test out at 100+ years > with the silver ones right behind. They use real gold and real silver so > there is no dye to decay... Do a google search and you'll see what I mean. > I spent a lot of time searching for info and talking with people who > duplicate for a living and everyone agreed on the Mitsui's. Pin-pon, they're selling their own stuff online: http://www.mitsuicdr.com/ Actually, Mitsui discs _do_ use a dye, called Phthalocyanine (read on it at ), which is supposed to be more stable than the competiton. According to their home page, Metal AZO (used by Mitsubishi-Verbatim and Philips) is supposedly even less-stable than your common blue-green dyed discs. Hmmm... I'll soon see for myself; I've ordered a batch of the Mitsui Gold discs (74 min. only, but that's sufficient for now). They have logo-free discs as well. Now that I think of it, both SuperSonicBOOM and cductive (two custom music CD vendors apparenty long vanished) used Mitsuis, something you could tell from the brand marking around the hub portion of the disc. I just saw woj and Mike Curry off a few minutes ago, with my ticket for tonight's Muses show at Irving Plaza destined for Don Keller's hand. Woke up sick this morning, dammit. I've been looking forward to this show for WEEKS, too. Argh. :P But on the bright side, at least I don't have to deal with Irving Plaza (god I hate that place). And I'll be able to get to bed before 2 am. And my eardrums will live to resonate another day (I know from experience that earplugs don't do all that much at a Muses show :}). =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Ruthie Foster, 4/27 =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: 27 Apr 2003 13:12:29 +1000 From: Andrew Fries Subject: Re: essence On Sat, 2003-04-26 at 20:46, anna maria stjdrnell wrote: > Hi.. > Was listening to a record by swedish group > Ainbusk..They cover Lucinda Williams Essence but in > swedish they call it Min rvda kdnningMy red dress > that is. I don't have any examples, just a comment: I like this translation better because it seems to make more sense this way. I mean, if someone came up to me in a bar and announced, "I'm wearing a red dress", well, OK - that's fairly straightforward to deal with. But if someone announced "I'm waiting for your essence!", I'd be a bit confused, and even slightly worried. PS. I don't even know the song in question.
