But there's a rather lengthy piece on the Folk Alliance and indie folk music/labels in general. Interesting report. http://discover.npr.org/rundowns/rundown.jhtml?prgDate=04/23/2003&prgId=2 - --Sue ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Apr 2003 00:47:19 -0700 From: "John Zimmer" Subject: Elin Sigvardsson (was Re: Ectophiles' Guide - General Comment) Dan wrote: > OMG the video single is addictive. I'm not sure how useful this comparison will be, but there's something about Elin's voice and style that reminds me ever so slightly of Portland singer/songwriter (and former label-mate of Happy's) McKinley, but in a folkier vein. Well worth checking out. John ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Apr 2003 06:08:43 -0400 From: Paul2k@aol.com Subject: charlotte martin, a kidjo, elin I heartily recommend any of you to go to see Charlotte Martin if she hits your area. www.charlottemartin.com She's a wacky girl, but has some excellent songs and a pretty rockin' piano thing going on. She'll be playing a bunch of gigs at the Cafe Hotel in Hollywood in the next few months. Angelique Kidjo was at my studio today! I was so excited...she's working with Linda Perry, who's set up camp here working on Pink's upcoming album. Pink took a couple days off from their work to work with William Orbit who's in another room here. eeeeeeeeeeeeee! For the first time since I started working here, we're actually getting clients that I'm interested in. Anyways, I think Angelique and Linda are just writing songs together, seeing what comes out; nothing concrete as of yet. And I agree with Dan, that elin sigvardsson has one mighty catchy single. Kinda reminds me of Dayna Manning. Is there something wrong with me where, in watching the video, I kept getting moments of gear lust, just catching glimpses of the equipment in the studio shots?
