She is here in the Triangle area of North Carolina (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill) for shows over the next few nights. Tonight she plays the Six String Cafe in Cary and on Sat. night she's part of a big Tori Tribute concert in Chapel Hill/Carrboro. I am shaking with anticipation!!! The Tori Tribute show is going to be quite an event. I'm not very good at this sort of thing but I'll try to give you some details. First off I love the stories she shares with us as to what the songs are all about, I would have been perfectly happy just listening to her stories all night. She's so personable and intelligent also, but everyone here already knows that right. She said that in coming from the west coast she was expecting some nice weather here on the east coast and all she's experienced is cold, snow, rain, and storms. We have had rainy, cool, stormy weather here in NC since she arrived on Wed.. She played a show at Duke Univ.(Durham) on Wed. night and I knew nothing at all about it, Damn I could have seen her once more. She's playing Charlotte tonight and I wish I could make that but have a previous engagement. I DO look forward to the Tori Tribute on Sat. night in Carrboro. Oh yeah, back to last night. The songs I know she played were Gravity(which she started off with), The Tower, Momentum, Say Uncle, Eric's Song, Soon Love Soon(where we all attempted to join in), Unwritten Letter #1, a song I believe she said was called Homecoming but I'm not sure of that. At one point she said we could request something if we wanted and I spoke right up with Daughter. She said something to the effect that she had thought of playing that but had decided to leave her up in the attic where she doesn't come down from too often. She went on to tell the story of how the song was written for her Dad and the love they both shared. Of course she then played a very beautiful version of the song, I literally had tears in my eyes. For her last encore, she told us she really hadn't had a lot of time to work on her Tori songs and said she'd like to practice on us. Her 1000 Oceans was absolutely stunning. I can't wait to hear her do Black Dove(January), and Never Seen Blue. After the show I thanked her for playing Daughter and she thanked me for requesting it. She is such a wonderful person, we are all very fortunate to have her talent. And yes we did talk a little ecto and Happy. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Apr 2003 21:23:46 -0400 From: Michael Curry Subject: Interesting article about the music business (and indies) http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/0411/p13s02-almp.html Random paragraph: "While executives at those labels wail about the industry's imminent collapse, indie labels and artists are singing a much happier tune. Most uplifting story I've come across in this miserable year.
