It's always a kick to turn somebody else on to The Good Stuff; I'm gratified to know I was able to do that for at least one other ectophile. Thanks! By the same token: > Also on CDBaby, the High Violets were mentioned here a while back. I > picked up their disc, 44 down, and really love it. I somehow missed this band's existence entirely -- shameful, since they're also from this neck o' the temperate rainforest. Paid a visit to their website (http://www.thehighviolets.com, also Flash intensive), and was greatly intrigued by what I heard -- once I got past the Quicktime clip that reminded me why I avoid local dive Berbati's Pan. I can definitely hear the 4AD and "shoegazer" influences. Nice stuff. I think I feel another attack of the EWS coming on... After several really dumb-sounding stuff, they finally hit on The Moon Seven Times. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. They recorded 3 wonderful albums in the dreamy/ethereal/pop/bluesy vein. Hey! That's in my backyard! I'll do my best to make that one. I danced a happy dance when I saw this, for not only does it mean that Veda will be able to make it south of the border again, but other Canadians whom I have been hoping to see live but haven't been able to since the visa price went up so high (such as Christine Fellows and Mia Sheard) may be able to come this way as well! Yay!!! After I saw the posting on the site I e-mailed Veda to make sure the House O'Muzak is still on her list of East Coast venues to play when she's in the time zone, and she assured me that it is. :) So it looks like she might be the first person to play three times in our living room. (The minute anything is finalized you know I will post the information here!) Of course, this is all assuming the rules don't change again, suddenly and without warning. :P (Nerissa and Katryna Nields were unable to cross the border into Canada this morning, because all of a sudden you need more than just a driver's license and birth certificate to get in. They had to cancel their entire Canadian mini-tour.
