Whenever Happy is fully up to speed again, whenever Kevin is the same way, and whenever Vienna is looking for a good Chicago performance space, she being up to speed already, the Uncommon Ground is the best coffeehouse of it's kind in town. Its website, www.uncommonground.com , has info on booking. By the time any of these people might perform there, I shall have moved much closer to the place, and it will be my great pleasure to attend (despite a great location, my new place is far too small for house concerts). Quotes on the website are as good as any description I can think of. Imagine Celtic folk music. Hear those fiddles? Play them fast and add jazzy piano riffs. It's getting very busy, a bit avant-garde. That's the music of southern Vermont quartet Assembly showcasing their new CD, January EP." - -The Village Voice If that sounds interesting, then you should go to CD Baby and listen: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/assembly It's a 5 song ep and there are 2 minute clips of 3 songs. In general, it's hard to get a good idea of something from clips, but I think these really capture their sound, and if you like the clips you'll like the album. I've been very pleasantly and happily surprised. So if you'd like to come see Happy in New Haven on April 6, please drop me a note ASAP. I plan to email our list on Thursday, and I'm sure that will fill in any remaining seats plus the waiting list. If you've written to let me know that you're thinking of coming, never fear - -- I've put you down as a "maybe", so you will definitely have a seat if you decide to come. But if you realize you won't be able to make it, please let me know as soon as possible so I can free up your seat. Whee!! P.S. Thanks for the kind words, Neal -- woj and I are insanely jealous that you're hosting Amy Denio again!! A new person for us to air is Sissel from Norway. Her style is a bit poppish but her voice is beautiful...almost like HR in the middle high range... not quite KaTe-ish. Cute, too. Someone more erudite needs to find and listen to her new CD and report back. Bye. Hope the year is going well so far. There's alot of news to tell you right now!!! I don't know where to start, but I guess I'll find the thread for the beginning and go from there..... Okay, firstly, I just wanted to let you all know about this project I'm involved in called the LASA, Los Angeles Song Alliance. I may have mentioned it in my last newsletter in January but I wanted to include some more information on it. Here's part of a statement that went to the press in February: The liner notes say, "There's somethin' happening here" and a group of Los angeles songwriters know exactly what it is. The L.A. Song Alliance, a group of some of the best up and coming song writers in L.A. have compiled "Songs From an Unreal City" a CD featuring the initial twelve members of the organization. Spearheaded by Anne McCue, an Australian singer/songwriter living in L.A., the compilation will be introduced at a media gathering at the new Music Connection music room on Feb. 27, 2003 at 7:30 pm. The CD features new writers and some who have had success already. Marcella Detroit, who's song "If" is heard on the CD, co-wrote "Lay Down Sally" with Eric Clapton and was part of the successful 90's band "Shakespear's Sister". Jim Bianco tours the country and can be heard locally on KCRW as can Tom Freund of whom Graham Parker has said, "I get shivers down the spine on almost every tune". Anne McCue spent last year touring North America with Lucinda Williams, Richard Thompson and others. Regarding Jerry Wagers, who continually sells out clubs in L.A/, such as The Gig and the Mint, Music Connection magazine said, "If you can imagine a hybrid performer somewhere between Arlo Guthrie and Paul McCartney at their peak you get some idea of the quality of Jerry Wagers' songs." Other vetereans of the scene heard on the CD included Marc Platt who's songs are heard in films and on TV and Billy Kent who's music has been recorded by Tower ofPower, Vinx and others. Other writers of note include relative newcomers Daveen DiGiacomo, Heather Zor. Erik Christian, Tim O'Gara and Regis McNicholas. As you see the media gathering was Feb. 27, 2003. We got our first review. You can check it out at: http://www.puremusic.com/lasong.html By the way, the offical website for the L.A. Song Alliance is: http://www.radioplayers.com/alliance/alliance_home.htm If you want you can check out fotos taken of us at the media presentation: http://www.radioplayers.com/alliance/launch_mc.htm That first show was private, for the media only. BUT, if you're in the LA area anyone can come to the next performance, open to the public. Following are the details: Date: March 21st Time: 9pm Venue: Hotel Cafe 1623 1/2 N. Cahuenga Blvd. (Just south of Hollywood Blvd.) Phone: 323 461-2040 Each of the 12 people in the Song Alliance will be performing; We'll each be doing our one song off the CD. This performance is actually being called the CD Release Party. CD's will be for sale at the venue and they are also available on the website for $12.00 and at: http://www.cdbaby.com/lasongalliance Additional LASA performance: in the LA Area April 24th at a place called Kulak's. It will be a live internet broadcast. As soon as I get all the info, I'll fill you in. We'll need an audience so try to come. If you can't actually make it to the venue, you'll be able to listen live on the net! THE LADY ALSO SINGS THE BLUES: For those of you who do not know me that well, my roots go back to the blues, r&b and soul. Which would explain why my favorite female singer, still, is Aretha Franklin. Mary J. Blige, as far as current singers, comes close to having her soulfulness. Which leads me to, I'm officially doing two blues festivals this coming May: May 3rd, Boise Idaho May 30th (Memorial Day Weekend) The Annual Chicago Blues Festival May 31st We will also be performing in a club near Chicago in Berwyn, Illinois called, "Fitzgerald's". I'll send out more info on the festivals and "Fitzgerald's" as the time draws nearer. If you're in the area please come, it should be lots of fun. There will be many notables for you blues fans and if you're not famiiar with them it will be good for you to get acquainted! I f any of you do attend either festival or gig, please be sure to come say hi to me at some point. I really enjoy being able to put a face to an email address! Speaking of the blues, two weeks ago, I had the privilege of performing with the blues I'm in with my partner in crime, Barry Goldberg, at a private party for a bigtime music manager named Elliott Roberts. Some of his clients were there: Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, David Crosby, Joni Mitchell, some bandmembers from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers! They really enjoyed the band and were very gracious and appreciative. It was a good nite out!! I'd like to remind everyone that my "Jewel" cd is now available for purchase on my site on the html version of the site for $10.00 plus shipping and handling. I'd like to include a link to a friend and fan Jonathan Jett who I found out, quite amazingly does readings and helps to solve crimes through his psychic powers! Anyway, if you're intersted in checking out his site, it's: http://okpitt.tripod.com/spiritualvisions/ So, enough already, I know that's alot to digest. Thanks again to all of you for your continued support and interest in what I'm doing. Please know I truly appreciate it. Much love and best wishes; Marcy :-) xoxoxoxo PEACE ALWAYS NO MORE WAR ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V9 #69 *************************
