I rather like The Grotto better than "Uses" . It might be her best work since Hips and Makers; I'll have to listen to it a few more times to decide. That said, what is up with Kristin's voice? Has she got nodes or what? Each album, she seems to get progressively more hoarse and weak. Or is it just me? ==Cynthia== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Mar 2003 10:41:34 -0700 From: Neal Copperman Subject: Tori seating question Jeff and I managed to score two excellent blocks of tickets for next months Tori show here in Albuquerque! Past experience has shown me that you get a wildly different experience at a Tori show depending on where you are sitting. I was hoping that some of you folks who've been seeing the recent shows could give us a suggestion as to which seats would be better. The set-up looks something like this, with the X's marking our seats. (I hold little expectation that this picture won't get completely distorted, but figured I'd try anyway. I can't get a good cut and pastable link for a seating chart, but if anyone is so enthusiastic about offereing suggestions that they want to look it up, you can get it off of ticketmaster for Tori's Albuquerque date. We've got Section 3, Row A, Seats 5 to 8 and Section 4, Row B, Low numbers (don't remember what)): | STAGE | | | ------------------------------ AAAA BBBB Thanks! neal now shuffling over: Fascinoma - Jon Hassell Sampler Disc - Ellis Paul Honesty Box - Jez Lowe & The Bad Pennies Birdy Soundtrack - Peter Gabriel PSM House Concert with Still on the Hill ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Mar 2003 10:36:29 -0800 From: "russvr" Subject: Cat Power tribute record and download Greetings Ectopians ! There is a non-commercial tribute record of the songs of Cat Power (aka Chan Marshall) available for sampling and ordering at : http://home.attbi.com/~rogerdeforest/catpowertribute.html . Of especial interest to Ecto folk would be the cover of 'Cross Bones Style' done by myself (echo guitar) and featuring the lovely vocals of fellow ecto reader Tamar Boursalian. Please download this pretty gem at: ftp://ftp.blarg.net/users/russvr/CrossBonesStyle.mp3 . I assume that in your diagram, X=A and X=B? :) Based on where woj and I have sat at all the shows we've been to, we agree that being slightly left is better than being slightly right (though that close, it really doesn't matter all *that* much). To the left, you have a better chance of seeing Tori's hands as she is playing the piano, and when she's turned to play the Wurlitzer and the Rhodes, she's looking right in your direction. You also get a very clear view of Jon Evans, if bass playing is important to you. Slightly right, you'll be looking at Matt Chamberlain, and you'll see Tori over the Boesendorfer. On this leg of the tour they have tended to have the lid off the piano so she can put a little synthesizer on top of the keyboard, which means that even if you're right you have nothing obstructing your view of Tori from that angle. The light show on this tour is the best one she's had yet -- very evocative, with minimal audience-blinding effects. The best place to get the full experience of the lights is from a loge or first balcony -- last weekend in Syracuse we were third row of the loge just right of center, and we could really see how the entire light show works together from there (there's stuff that gets projected down onto the stage that you don't see from the orchestra level). Of course this is just incidental stuff -- the music is what counts. :) We're headed down to NYC in a little bit to see the last night of her stand at Radio City Music Hall. woj has been to both of the other shows there, and was quite pleased with them both. I'm really looking forward to tonight, since Tori tends to pull out some surprises on the final night of a multi-night stand like this ... but it's also bittersweet since this is also the last show of the tour we'll get to see. Ah, well. All good things must come to an end. :) =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Dorothy Scott, 3/16/03 =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 08 Mar 2003 22:20:38 -0500 From: Jeffrey Burka Subject: Re: Cat Power tribute record and download russvr sez: > Of especial > interest to Ecto folk would be the cover of 'Cross Bones Style' done by myself > (echo guitar) and featuring the lovely vocals of fellow ecto reader Tamar > Boursalian.
