Roach Greetings Ectophiles :) Friday, March 14th @ 8PM We're having a houseconcert with a wonderful songwriter/pianist named Reba Hasko, and Appalaichan troubador AJ Roach, accompanied by Miss Mia Thompson on harmonies. The house is a very large one in the Oakland Hills. No need to make a reservation, but they do tend to get pretty packed, so you might want to get here on the early side. If you think you'd like to come, e-mail me and I'll send you directions. Here's more info on them-- Reba Hasko: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/rebahasko http://www.katdowns.com/katdowns_005.htm A.J. He's a fine songwriter with a knack for indelible vocal melodies and wry updates and ironic turns on the lyric conventions/cliches of country music. Strong tenor voice, pretty good guitar player. The band he fronts, Old 97s, is one of the tighest, most energetic bands I've ever seen. His recent solo album didn't sound categorically different from his Old 97s material; it left me a little baffled: given that he works with a world-class rhythm section, why not have 'em play on the album/tour? - -- d. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 05 Mar 2003 11:07:50 -0500 From: noam tchotchke Subject: Re: ky news one time at band camp, Steve VanDevender said: >I got _Enemy_ back in 2001 and I love it, and I'm intrigued by >the reviews of _Breasticles_ (even if that name makes me twitch every >time I hear it :-). it's less twitchable if you pronounce it so it rhymes with pericles. ;) +w ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 05 Mar 2003 17:34:56 -0500 From: Jason Gordon Subject: andrea perry and the snoop dog transalation of the ecto guide Does anyone know anything about an artist called Andrea Perry...I just randomly picked her disc "two" and it is amazing. The disc has some similarities to amy correia or the cardigans but is more like rebecca moore's admiral charcolas song...very eclectic and wonderful. On a wierd but hilarious note (it has been a long day at work...) - I came across the site www.asksnoop.com - enter the ectoguide site into the shizzolator and it transaltes it into snoop-talk. My favorite part is: "Since da Guide is basically a compilation of ectophiles' comments 'n reviews, that shiznit makes sense that once yo' ass get a feel fo' which ectophiles has tastes closest (or farthest from) yo' own, yo' ass might want see what they be like 'bout specific artists n' shit. Comments throughout da guide are linked this index, which also contains bios of commentators who has submitted 'em, know what I'm sayin'? " - -Jason ps i never thought I would be mentioning snoop dog on ecto - but hey there is a first time for everything :) ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V9 #63 *************************
