It's called Shores of Avalon by Tina Malia. It's got a strong Loreena McKennitt influence all over it. At first I thought it was a bit derivative, because the connection is overwhelming. However, the CD is really nicely done, and I found myself very happy to listen to more lush, beautiful, and catchy Loreena-like music. It's a great, layered album. The more I listen to it, the more details I can hear. Tina herself plays guitar, hammer & mountain dulcimer, piano and keyboards, as well as singing. But there are also other singers, various drums and percussion, violin, cello, sitar, nickleharpa and on and on. She's of Korean descent and has a strong musical heritage (daughter of an opera singer, lots of musical training). You can find more info at http://www.tinamalia.com. It looks like she's San Francisco based and tours up and down the west coast a fair amount. neal np: shores of avalon - tina malia ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Feb 2003 15:45:30 -0800 From: cyo@landoftheblind.com Subject: SF & Ecto-listeners & Blind fans, Techno-Cosmic-Mass with CYO & BLIND THE TECHNO COSMIC MASS.....THEME-SACRED COSMOS-SUNDAY FEB. 23rd 6:30pm 6:30-9 pm, Mass (all denominations and beliefs welcome!) The technocosmicmass is a trip. They used some of my music (from the "Shekhinah: the Presence" CD) at one a few months ago. The whole experience was pretty wild and wonderful. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Thursday, February 13, 2003 3:45 PM Subject: SF & Ecto-listeners & Blind fans, Techno-Cosmic-Mass with CYO & BLIND > THE TECHNO COSMIC MASS.....THEME-SACRED COSMOS-SUNDAY FEB. 23rd 6:30pm ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Feb 2003 20:04:58 -0600 From: "Matthew Bittner" Subject: Re: Tina Malia On Thu, 13 Feb 2003 23:05:34 -0000, neal copperman wrote: >You can find more info at http://www.tinamalia.com. April 25th, Maria McKee and band are playing at the Roxy on Sunset in Hollywood. Wooha! Tickets are $25. :( Ticketmaster is frickin' charging 6.25 for convenience. They suck. I'm also holding off on buying tickets to see Aterciopelados this month because the tickets would cost $35 with charges. Anyone check out the West Wing last night, with Jill Sobule's guest appearance? She was supposed to be playing at Iota in Arlington for her scene. Lately I've been listening in my car to: Lamb "Lamb", Happy Rhodes "Warpaint", Jimmy Eat World "Bleed American", Sleeper "Smart", Eddi Reader "Eddi Reader", and Mimi "Soak". Since I only listen to my car, and I spend a lot of time in the car, I've been rotating between these cds quite a lot. And they are all really, really good. Almost takes away the urge to splurge and fall into EWS. Almost. Paul ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V9 #43 *************************
